Erdogan’s power grab: Turkish president declares state of emergency after failed coup

The move will allow the despot to bypass parliament in passing new laws. He can also suspend rights and freedoms as he deems necessary.

Turkey has formally charged 99 generals and admirals following Last Friday’s failed coup, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attempted to stamp his authority on a shaken country with a high-profile meeting of loyal commanders and his cabinet in Ankara yesterday.

Despite growing international alarm, the Erdogan government was expanding its purge of alleged coup backers with the announcement that around 6,500 employees of Turkey’s education ministry had been suspended.

Erdogan should nuke Pennsylvania, I hear there are some key coup plotters there…

  • A three month state of emergency is actually a three month period of murdering one’s opponents.

    And nobody saw this coming?
Turkey proclaim to be a democracy, but it is more like a well thought out dictatorship under the guise of a democracy and the people are so naïve they are letting it happen right before their eyes. One has to wonder if the failed coup was actually staged and whether it achieved its goals. This should bring Turkey more closer to the mindset of the EU and open vast new ways for refugees to swarm into Europe. What a cesspool Europe has become!
