The Brexit rebuke

Astonishment, jubilation, and awe seized the hearts of European leaders after they took decisive steps toward uniting their continent in December 1991.

As a correspondent covering the Maastricht summit, I was caught up in the excitement. Within hours after I filed my report, though, my editor called from New York. He did not believe what I had written. How, he demanded, could countries with such vastly different histories and political cultures believe that they could function as one?

The editor was correct, and what is more actually gave some thought and reason to the matter instead of blindly onto the bandwagon. Where have such editors and journalists gone?

These days young journalists are preferred, not just for their youth and enthusiasm, but because of their lack of experience and their advocacy of pre-chosen viewpoints. The Progressives have taken over the journalism schools and teach their students that reporting is no longer the “Who, what, when, where and how”, but journalism is about picking a socially progressive topic, finding evidence to support your point of view and reporting that supporting evidence. No one must be left to make up their own minds, based on a dispassionate assessment of all sides to a issue; social justice must be advanced by the selection of appropriate evidence to be presented.

The editors are also young and are just a slightly older version of the young editors. Advocacy journalism got a huge boost to popularity after the Watergate Affair and the effect of the efforts of journalists to uncover it. Many young people saw this and thought they could make a difference in politics by working as journalists to shape public opinion and so started their careers with this goal.

You are correct that like so many other areas in Western society today, we are reaping the results of the marxist infiltration of the education system. I suggest today’s journalists see themselves with the task of forming public option (social engineering) instead of reporting the news.
