brexit do over

Petition to force a second referendum hits a MILLION signatures in a day: MPs will have to debate the proposal after claims the Brexit margin of victory wasn’t high enough

The prospect of holding a second EU referendum could be debated in Parliament in coming weeks after a petition topped one million signatures within hours of the result being declared.

It was so popular that the Government petition website hosting the motion crashed this morning.

The petition demands the Government re-stage the referendum because the winning vote for Leave was less than 60 per cent and was based on a turnout of less than 75 per cent.

Another voter, Mandy, said: “I was very disappointed about the result, even though I voted to leave, this morning I woke up and the reality did actually hit me.

There’s no “morning after” pill for a referendum.

    • Daviddowntown

and there’s no cure for stupidity.

      • As Obama said, “elections have consequences”.

Too bad you losers. Get over it.

        • Surele Surele

And the USA is a perfect example of an election gone wrong. Did the conservatives whine and demand a redo?

  • Ron MacDonald

Had the “Remain” vote won, the Left would have opposed any attempt at having another referendum.

    • tom_billesley

Members of Parliament are mostly in the “remain” camp. Now they’re being asked to debate another referendum only wanted by those in the “remain” camp. Both of the main parties have leaderships in turmoil, in one case going and in the other threatened. This is supposed to be a fixed term parliament but a general election may be called. SNP wants another referendum on Scottish independence and Sinn Fein wants a referendum on uniting Northern Ireland with the republic. There’s even a somewhat jocular call for an independent London city state. Interesting times.

      • infedel

        “London City state”…hello sharia

      • dukestreet

Sinn Fein may have a problem, since in all my trips to the Republic of Ireland, I’ve met very few who want Northern Ireland to be joined to them. The connection to the Brits is deeply distrusted and disliked.

they had an over 100,000 petition to ban trump from entering the uk .trump open`s new golf course in Scotland 2 day`s ago . see where I`m going [ed uk ]

    • Linda1000

Screw the Scots, maybe Trump should sell his golf course. Why keep money in that place.

      • Observer

Give the green Scottish nationalists what they deserve and replace the golf course with a wind farm. See how the like their scenery then!

  • Barrington Minge

The referendum was held on the basis of a simple majority either way. Just because the result did not suit them, the losers now want to have another referendum with different rules.
This is not democracy. It is attempted rule by “sour grapes”.

  • Raymond Hietapakka

…my young relatives are bitching about the results of Democracy….one so dumb she never realized there was The Holocaust until in her 30’s, no szchiddt, folks…

    • Surele Surele

The young have a very strange concept of what Democracy is. They did not to have to die to protect it.

  • Linda1000

The ongoing battle for Brexit. The second one is the “Ozero Brexit Bump” as Nigel Farage said on Ozero’s special trip before the vote.

  • Ego

But I bet they’d have had no problem if Remain wins by even one vote.
How many times do they think they get to vote on Brexit? Until it goes their way?

    • pdxnag

The Islamists already let in don’t care about any vote, all they care about is that there be more Muslims inside the gate tomorrow than today. To win you must make sure there are fewer Muslims within tomorrow than today, or no vote makes any difference at all.

      • Ego

I fully agree, and hope to see a sea change soon, not only in the UK but also elsewhere in Europe and in the US.

  • Linda1000

OUTsch! Brexit = Verboten Liebe! (forbidden love) Vee vill see about this new association. Sour puss.

The same thing happened in the lead up to the Spanish Civil War: the Left contested some elections won by right-wing parties, so they demanded and won the redo’s by jigging the process and the results, and in the end banished right-wing parties from participating in politics.

The Left aren’t democrats. The sooner you accept that the sooner you understand their actions and the threat they pose.

    • robins111

Shortly after banning the right wing parties, they started shooting opposing members, including the leader of the opposition, that was the Spanish Assault Guards, their version of our RCMP…

  • Med1

No means no! You don’t get a re-vote. Besides, this was the best thing that’s happened in Great Britain in a long time.

    • Surele Surele

And this from a group that introduced the “No means No” concept.

  • robins111

I wasn’t satisfied with the Stanley Cup, the Leafs didn’t win, I demand a redo till they do…. Of course that’s likely to take centuries but we’ll keep doing it

    • Minicapt

We’ve been doing that since 1968, but only one attempt per year allowed.

Stupid liberals want a full tilt revolution. Hey, great idea! Let’s get it started and create more Jo’s.

In other words, the ‘remain’ side tried to rig the election but were unsuccessful, so now they want a ‘do-over’…

  • glasnost

I’m all for a 60% threshold – so long as the default is LEAVE, and the STAY people need the 60%.
If that seems unreasonable, consider that it’s the same thing the STAY are asking for but with the deck stacked the other way.

The pro EU supporters should be required to speak to Eastern Europeans who lived under soviet rule in the USSR since it is not very different from the EU.

  • Maurixio Garciasanchez

They should get a petition to move on and respect their lost and failure.
