Edmonton entrepreneur’s shocking business secret? Exploiting foreign workers

At first blush, Jennilyn Morris, 46, seems the quintessential immigrant success story.

Morris came to Canada in 1998 from the Philippines under Canada’s live-in caregiver visa program.

She married a Canadian, the father of a boy for whom she had been a nanny. Together, they had a son and a daughter. She fought and beat breast cancer. And through it all, she built two successful businesses: a restaurant, Smokey Joe’s Hickory Smoke House and Demot Cleaning, which offered housekeeping, janitorial and kitchen staff services to local hotels, including the Nisku Inn, Executive Royal Inn and Wingate House.

The exploiting of foreign workers by domestic and global companies with the willing cooperation and eager participation by Canadian governments to the detriment of native Canadians is what business – and vote-getting – is all about these days.

    • It is sickening. I was surprised, but realize now I shouldn’t have been, that the Temp Foreign Workers fiasco was not a bigger election issue.

As suspected all the parties are whores.

      We need a Trump.

In our industry the ongoing attempts to import chinese workers into Canada is an on going threat. It crosses party lines and is seemingly run by immigration consultants . There is already a chinese run mine in BC run by Chi-Coms that employes only chinese mandarin speakers, other industries are eager to replace Canadians with cheap imports.

They tried it in the oilsands a few years ago and it resulted in deaths when the tank they built collapsed during construction.

That’s because both the Left and the Right have their own nefarious reasons for being all for TFWs and wide open immigration. Treason runs deep and wide across the political spectrum, unfortunately.

‘Many testified they trusted her because they simply couldn’t believe another Filipino would cheat them.’

I’m reminded of a Filipino woman in Toronto who exploited her fellow Filipinos here in Canada by offering bullshit immigration services through her, wait for it, dry cleaning business…… !!

And worth mentioning, a story I saw on the news a couple years back about a woman originally from China who had sold bogus real estate investments to her fellow Chinese ex-pats here in Toronto.
As one defrauded, blunt Chinese woman put it…
‘If I wanted to get screwed over in a real estate investment by a person from China I would have just stayed in Hong Kong.’ — OUCH!!

Also worth mentioning, all of the exploited workers in Toronto-area Chinese restaurants who are, you guessed it, exploited by their fellow Chinese.
(I was a waiter in my early 20s, including at a Chinese buffet, and witnessed this first hand.)

The moral of these stories? Don’t trust someone simply because you have a cultural ‘bond’.

I trust no one, whitey included. 😉

    • I belive it;s called the Affinity Con – Bernie Madoff comes to mind.

When I was a kid I applied at Chinese restaurants and they told me straight up they wouldn’t hire me because I wasn’t Chinese.
I never patronized their restaurants after that.
Do not order food from any Chinese restaurant in Fort Richmond.

One can only hope that there is a special place in hell for those who exploit their own.

In reality what this is is the Canadian government allowing employers to sell a foot in the door toward Canadian citizenship in trade for underpaid or unpaid servitude.

I still remember when Judy Sgro who continues to be a Liberal MP championed all the Eastern European strippers / prostitutes coming into Canada. It seems there just weren’t enough Canadian strippers for the Liberals liking.

While as a “non-violent” crime Jennilyn Morris will be out after 1/6th of the sentence or 5 months. If it has been a “violent” crime she would have only been eligible after 1/3 of the sentence.

The entire TFW program is rotten right to the core.
