Turkish journalists get 2 years’ jail for publishing cartoon of Prophet Muhammad

ANKARA (AFP) – A Turkish court on Thursday (April 28) sentenced two prominent Turkish journalists to two years behind bars for illustrating their columns with a controversial cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad published by French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, a lawyer said.

“The two journalists were sentenced to two years each in jail,” said Mr Bulent Utku, the lawyer of Cumhuriyet daily columnists Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan.

“But we will appeal the ruling at the appeals court,” he told AFP.
