GUNTER: Departing senator’s bill looks to give restrictive gun registration

Is Senate Private Bill S-223 a parting shot by a retiring Liberal senator or a trial balloon being launched by the Trudeau government to see whether there is any taste for a new gun registry?

Hard to say. What is clear is that if S-223 ever became law, it would be even more restrictive than the 1995 long-gun registration bill, C-68.

  • Ron MacDonald

He can kiss a second term goodbye if he attempts this.

  • Exile1981

Trial balloon. I see this as turdeaus puppet masters using a retiring senator to see how much backlash there is vefore deciding to risk the ponies hide on it.

  • Exile1981

I just realized the bill number is a funny… They are calling it S-223?

    • Jim Horne

I’m not sure what you mean by funny. But the Bill is anything but funny.

      Link to S-223:

Centralized Storage of firearms even at a local level is akin to the first step toward confiscation of firearms. Not to mention most firearms would be reclassified by this Bill and require them to be “circumscribed” a new term for registered.

Resistence to Bill-223 needs to be unequivocal.

      • Exile1981

funny as in the bill # is 223 which is the most popular sporting caliber…. and which they will likely classify as military.

        • mauser 98

          good point!!…not a coincidence
AR-15 is restricted now,, ban it and Mini-14 , perhaps even bolt guns for same

bulk ammo is cheap …they no like

          PM Bag-Of-Snot will do it

  • Never been a “gun nut”, never owned a gun, never cared a rat’s ass about guns (I think I’ve only used a gun twice in my life: once when Pop took me out to the lake when I was a kid, another time hunting “wild hen” in the tropics — didn’t bag any).

But now the gun issue grips me, mostly because the Left is so fanatically opposed to owning guns. Raises my suspicions about why they are so fanatically opposed.

Could it be that every dictator and tolitarian government in the last century has massivly cracked down on firearm ownership as phase 1 of a plan that includes killing millions of their own citizens?

      • I would say a resounding “yes”. And I’m increasingly suspicious that it’s a pre-emptive move, maybe not for “killing millions of citizens” but certainly for something seriously repressive in the works regarding our fundamental freedoms.

        • Exile1981

that’s because your smarter than the average liberal voter.

    • Maggat

It’s all about control, isn’t it?

    • mauser 98

most guns , ammo better than money in the bank
mine appreciate at about 15% per year average
      (new ones?….yuck…no soul)

Here again is an example of the results of Harper’s refusal to take strong, direct action preferring to tinker with problems (referred to as incrementalism). Instead of repealing the ridiculous Liberals’ Firearms Act and totally replacing it, he chose to do a bit of tinkering by eliminating the long gun registry. All this makes the task for the Liberals so much easier, since they simply undo the tinkering/minor changes.

The Liberals have consistently undone most of the “incrementalism” by Harper in all other areas, such as restoring the ridiculous long form census, so expect it to be the same with the long gun registry, except that it will be even worse this time around.

    • Maggat

Yes one of his few failures.

  • canminuteman

A lot of people did not register their guns under C68. I can guarantee that if they try this even more people will igore the law and go underground.

    • UCSPanther

I will gladly join those ranks if and when the time comes.

    • mauser 98

McGuinty tried to create his own registry
sent OPP chief firearms officer to all gun stores demanding a copy of new gun receipts
gun store owners refused ..took the Feds to stop McSlimey

  • mauser 98

“guns would not have to be “registered,” they would have to be “inscribed.”

UN Agenda 21… means receiver to be engraved with a UN serial number

  • Clausewitz

This sounds like something that Junior can get behind. He’d jump at the chance to turn all legal gun owners into state appointed criminals. This law would do nothing to hinder the usage of illegal guns.

A large diameter plastic pipe for rifles, perhaps vacuum packing smaller guns such as pistols. Let’s start getting the ideas out there.

    • mauser 98

did it in Australia…PVC pipe and end caps

Time to buy a CAD/CAM machine or a 3D printer. Make that one shot count.
