The software than can hunt down terrorists and trolls: System can ‘devour’ millions of social media messages to identify abusers

The new software called FireAnt can block out the ‘noise’ of millions of online messages to reveal specific kinds of content, and collect it for analysis.

Researchers say this could allow investigators and even ordinary users to pinpoint cyberbullies and radicalising groups, and detect high-risk individuals that may be a threat offline.

Forget the “cyberbullies and radicalizing groups”, they’ll target Tea Party types and conservatives.

Who knew cyber bullies were a target deserving of state security attention?
      That part is quite odd.

      • lolwut?

I see it as an admission of desperation and a need to show that they really are in control and doing something.

People are waking up and it scares the fuck out of the people in power.

Perhaps the Tea Party should have people studying how to confound and bypass such software.

All it’s doing is flagging potential “Problem” posts.

At the end of the day even the most sophisticated AI and algorithms in the world
can’t tell the difference between humor, seriousness, anger or sadness… or someone just blowing off steam.

it still requires a human to check each and every one going through posting histories and other links trying to figure out what the real meaning and intent of a post was.

The best a computer can do is assign a numerical rating to what it “Thinks” is a threat or other issue.

Noise, more noise and lots more noise. keep piling on the hay.

The more noise, the more people and time required to go through it.
