UK: Muslim survivor of FGM is attacked by Muslim woman ‘for warning pupils that FGM is child abuse’

Tunisia divided

Be pretty freaky, being charged by one of these.

Hibo Wardere, 46, who fled Somalia’s civil war at the age of 18 having suffered FGM aged six, has made it her life’s work to educate and speak frankly about the brutal surgery which affects 200 million women in 30 countries.

Mrs Wardere, a teaching assistant who visits schools to educate children about the procedure, has written a book about her one-woman fight to wipe out FGM in her lifetime.

…She said: “I had a scary confrontation on the 257 bus in Walthamstow. A woman with a full niqab recognised me and ran at me screaming my name and snarling, ‘You came to my child’s school, you told her FGM was abuse.’

“I could only see her eyes but they were full of rage. She was so angry she had to be dragged off the bus, but I was jumping for joy inside because that meant a child had confronted their parent.”

A recent City University London and Equality Now study shows that FGM has been carried out on 137,000 women and girls living in England and Wales but Mrs Wardere believes these figures will sky-rocket once a full NHS survey comes out next year.

  • Muslims – always spreadin the luv!

  • Ed

That one on the left. What is that super structure going across her face where a nose would normally occur?

    • Hate Crime In Progress

      Her moustache.

  • Frances

Brave woman – she is being targeted.

    • This will happen more and more, I’m afraid.

      • Gary

Right, and our problem in Canada includes importing a mix of muslims that hate each other and will bring the wars to our soil.

I don’t care if Justin claims that the muslim refugees aren’t a threat to me …..the issue I have is that I might be on a Bus with the same Shia Imam that the radical Sunni’s want to murder as an Apostate and a suicide-bomber gets on that doesn’t care how many infidels they slaughter with Imam.

        • But they are a threat to the Western way of life whether on a bus, in schools or in the voting booth. People who blame their problems on Jews aren’t a great addition to the country, full stop.

  • Norman_In_New_York

While it’s true that Equality Now has been campaigning against FGM for many years, it is careful to omit the “I” word when it comes to religious sanction of this practice.

  • canminuteman

I don’t care what they do to each other.

  • roccolore

That’s why the attacker wore a full-face garbage bag.

  • Clinton

FGM was criminalized in England in 1985, yet it wasn’t until last year that
anyone was charged with a violation of that law. How is it possible that
hundreds of thousands of British children could be mutilated and not one
    single case
result in criminal charges in thirty years time? It’s as though
the UK is one giant Rotherham, with police, health care professionals,
lawmakers and social services all collectively ignoring what’s before their
eyes. Why isn’t this an enormous scandal over there?

    • Petrilia

Why is this not a scandal in Canada? It is happening here. Our PM and his wife should speak out and stop it. Trudeaus wife is good. She could stop this barbarism. Let’s all work on Madame TRudeau. That might be where Canada could really have influence. No FGMin Canada. Better to start.

    Cloth Daleks.

  • ismiselemeas

Remind me not to catch the 257 when I’m in Walthamstow!

  • We are going through a historical phase even worse than the Nazi-Fascist-Communist era of the 20th Cent. Islam is going to be hell on earth for the world this century.

  • Kathy Prendergast

“Be pretty freaky, being charged by one of these.” No kidding; I’d rather be charged by a bull.

The campaigner’s story about being attacked by the niqab-wearing harpy on the bus isn’t that heartening, though. She is the mother of a child and as such wields considerable power. It sounds like she was set on having her own daughter mutilated, somehow or other. Just telling the children that it’s “wrong” achieves nothing if you can’t also convince the parents, who make the decisions. Although there has not been a single prosecution in Britain for FGM since it was outlawed, I have no doubt that some of these procedures are being carried out on UK soil, even though the strategy of choice seems to be for parents to take their girls on “vacations” back to the home country during school holidays. Girls born of first-generation immigrant parents from countries with a high rate of FGM – Somalia being one notorious one – should be identified from birth by child welfare agencies as being at high risk of the procedure and monitored closely throughout their childhood, whether the parents like it or not. Breathing down their necks and making them realize just what the stakes are if they hurt these children is the only way. Of course, the simpler solution would have been to never import any of these barbarians in the first place, but that ship has long since sailed.
