This Sweet-Talking, Rosy-Cheeked Killer Pensioner Dubbed Canada’s Most Dangerous Woman

Melissa-Ann-Shepard

Police have warned elderly men to be on the lookout for black widow Melissa Ann Shepard following her release from prison yesterday.

Her prison sentences seem bizarre. On the one hand, she drugged
one husband and then ran over him — twice– with a car, killing him.
For that, she served two years in prison, which seems a rather light
penalty to pay. On the other hand, she defrauded another husband
of tens of thousands of dollars, for which she served five years in
      prison.

How is it possible that the premeditated killing of one spouse
carried a much lighter penalty than merely robbing another? And,
if authorities have deemed that she’s likely to prey on others now
that she’s out, why release her? “Compassionate grounds” hardly
seem compassionate for the people she’ll likely target…

She may be a sociopath, but she certainly has an eye for picking
      the most effective legal counsel.

She is a woman. Women literally get away with murder all the time. Have you ever read a newspaper story about a female murderer that didn’t make her out to be the victim? When a woman kills her children the typical response is “she must have been having a hard time, the poor dear. When a man does the same thing the typical response is “we should hang the evil bastard”.

This has been going on a long time. I remember reading an article written a hundred odd years ago where the writer was arguing that we shouldn’t bother charging women with murder, because even when they are guilt society isn’t prepared to punish them.

Men seem to dig black widows and other malevolent women for some reason.

The Mirror missed out a bit.
Shepard claimed that the husband she ran over, her second, had been trying to rape her at the time. After release on parole she gave talks across Canada about battered woman syndrome, a criminal defence that can be used by victims of domestic abuse who go on to attack their partner. She featured in a National Film Board documentary, “When Women Kill”, about victims of domestic abuse who attack their partners. She also won a government grant to help others like herself.

“From 1977 to 1991, she served sentences for more than 30 separate convictions for fraud….the pensioner has been assessed and has been found to be at a high risk of reoffending.”

There is something very wrong with our legal system,
