In this photo taken May 20, 2015, Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., poses for a portrait before an interview with The Associated Press in Washington. For Democrats who had hoped to lure Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren into a presidential campaign, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders might be the next best thing. Sanders, who is opening his official presidential campaign Tuesday in Burlington, Vermont, aims to ignite a grassroots fire among left-leaning Democrats wary of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He is laying out an agenda in step with the party's progressive wing and compatible with Warren's platform _ reining in Wall Street banks, tackling college debt and creating a government-financed infrastructure jobs program. Can Only Republicans Can Be Authoritarians?

In an essay, “The Rise of American Authoritarianism,” posted on (March 1), Amanda Taub makes three claims: (1) Donald Trump is backed by authoritarians who feel threatened by social, political, and economic changes in the U.S.; (2) the GOP’s appeal to traditionalism and law-and-order has attracted  “a vast and previously bipartisan population of Americans with authoritarian tendencies,” insuring there will be more Trump-like candidates in the future; and (3) since ”Democrats, by contrast, have positioned themselves as the party of civil rights, equality, and social progress…” they can be absolved of any charge of harboring authoritarians.

It’s hard to overstate how received-wisdomish this viewpoint is.

Democrats don’t have sufficient authority to be authoritarian, they’re just totalitarian.

Who is it that is waging war on the native population by injecting invaders into every subdivision in America? What label best fits their treasonous behavior?

The reason leftists see conservatives as the “authoritarians” is that we tell people that the key to success is don’t be an addict, don’t sleep around, obey the law, and respect legitimate authority. Conservatives have far fewer rules, most of which they don’t even want made into the actual law, but they are rules that leftists can’t stand.

Liberals want to control industry, production, and commerce; things that leftists have no interest in. Therefore, they feel “freer” because their bad habits and self-indulgence are tolerated.

  • The Left doesn’t understand that authoritarianism is gauged by your actions, not by your ideals. Ideals can’t hurt anyone — they’re abstract thoughts. Enforcing your ideals on others — through the use of active force — is what makes you a dictator. And the most perverse expression of it it is when they are enforced in the name of “human rights”, which the Left does on a default basis in order to disguise their dictatorial agenda. Socialism is fascism — it ipso facto eliminates individual rights and freedoms by forcibly subjugating the individual and other groups to the will of the chosen fascist socialist group, exclusively.
