Spengler: Trump benefits from downward mobility vote

From David P. Goldman (“Spengler”):

Americans tolerate a wealthy elite if and only if they can get in on the action, too. The cartelized, corrupted, closed wealth-creating mechanism of the past eight years shuts them out. The Republican base is out for blood. They want revenge on the elites that have shut them out of wealth creation. Pace Peggy Noonan, it has nothing to do with “protected” vs. “unprotected.” It’s about wannabe’s vs. be’s. And pace Bret Stephens, it has nothing to do with what Stephens calls “a new political wave sweeping the globe—leaders coming to power through democratic means while avowing illiberal ends” including Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Americans have different demands than Turks and Magyars.

Downward mobility is the decisive issue in the 2016 elections. Unless Trump’s rivals can capture the imagination of the electorate with a vision of renewed upward mobility, Trump will take the nomination. A Clinton-Trump general election would be the dirtiest, nastiest, sleaziest and most divisive since the Civil War. In that case, God help the United States of America. More.

Reality check: He also benefits from the frenzied meltdown of legacy media. So many people now realize that they can no longer be called the mainstream media because they neither represent nor wish to represent the mainstream. No matter what happens to Trump, things will never be the same again for them.

  • I am glad people are waking up to the evil our political class have visited upon us.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

For us for a long time it has been the evil our media class has wrought upon us.
      And we’re winning.
They are collapsing like a soufflé.

      • Clink9

Imagine the CNN outrage if conservatives went shit disturbing at a Hillary Clinton event.

Blame Hillary? Not in a million years.

  • Brett_McS

Reality check? Trump v Clinton will be a Reality Show.

  • Tom Forsythe

Any doubt I had about supporting Trump has been taken away by the decision of the other candidates to attack him in the wake of Chicago. They should have rallied to his side, against the thugs, not said “they kind of have a point.”

    • Brett_McS

The crowd thought he was joking. He wasn’t. He’s a thug.

Frankly, we need a thug in the White House after 25 years of losers.

        • Minicapt

How about one with qualifications, rather than poses?

          Cheers

          • Med1

Qualifications mean NOTHING to me! I want someone who would make the same decisions that I would. A surrogate who reacts just as I would. I do not want niceties or political correctness. I want someone who has the balls to fix what has been broken and won’t cower in the face of the adversity that it will bring. I do not want a politician, I want Donald Trump!

          • Minicapt

You may find yourself slightly disappointed.

            Cheers

          • Med1

            Disappointed by what?

          • Clink9

So far, nobody has been able to articulate the horrors that await us with a Trump presidency.

Which is exactly why I want it to happen.

          • disqusW6sf

            Precisely.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

What qualifies anyone for the White House?
Do you have to go to school to get a degree for it?

          • Clink9

            Like Obama school.

            Then you seal the records.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

Because if you don’t Dan Rather might have to lie about them.

          • Minicapt

            Yes, the Electoral College.

            Cheers

          • dance…dancetotheradio

            That’s funny.

        • Brett_McS

As long as it is understood, if that’s what people want …

          • Med1

            I WANT! I WANT!!!!!

          • dance…dancetotheradio

How can Trump be any worse than what we’ve already got?

          • Clink9

Rubio is on State of the Union show now, peeing in his panties and clutching his pearls. Reeks of desperation.

      Cruz lost right there.

If Trump challenges Democrat cheating, and if it’s clear that the election has been stolen, as I suspect it will be, I seriously doubt Trump or his supporters are going to accept the result.

Trump supporters are going to be extremely vigilant at the polls. If the Black Panthers are there, intimidating, Trump people will be intimidating right back. If there are more voters in Cuyahoga County than residents, Trump and his people are not going to accept the result.

If the Republic Party doesn’t support Trump, I think that’s probably the end of the Republican Party. I’m certainly turning in my card.

    • Kell

Where in Cuyahoga are you? IF? I’m from the former ‘SouthSide” (currently ‘Tremont’) and now live much further south but still in Ohio in Carroll County.
