• I just cannot see how this gets fixed without a catastrophic change of some kind. It reminds me of nothing so much as the feeling I get when I know that I have eaten something that was contaminated. I know the only way to clear my system and get rid of the poison is to vomit it up. Still, until the impulse to heave gets strong enough, I fight the feeling and keep it down. Academe is contaminated, even poisoned, and until it is overcome and retches…
The first thing that needs to happen is we need to break the self-perpetuating mythology in which the ruling class, the professoriate and the administration tell us that a college education is essential to success and that an Ivy League education is a sinecure.
Here is a hope- The schools, by giving their students the power to do this kind of bullshit are proving to the rest of us that the mythology is corrupt, and counter-productive.

    • There is so much wrong, credentialing being the end result of the huge growth of the silly social sciences. The education machine feeds on tax dollars and is wedded to the dream of upward mobility, it will be a hard task to end it. But starving it of funds seems the best route.

      • Washington State is a progressive cess pool. What can one expect from WWU.

That said. These worthless degrees, in progressive BS, cost the taxpayers and saddle “students” with debt.

When these fragile snowflakes go looking for a job, maybe there opinions will change.

Unfortunately they will become long term whiners. But at least they will be working a McDonalds.

They’ll be working at McDonalds until the management reacts to the $15 an hour minimum wage by installing burger making robots.

Excessive rec pharma abuse by these cretins and their parents is my “go to” thesis for their uniformity, outlook, and eagerness to impose some sort of mindless barbarism on their betters. Their professors would possibly be the product of several additional generations of such abuse.

  • Hard Little Machine

I would give in. Either they shut down the school and bankrupt it or they get what they want and bankrupt it anyway.

    • Halal Bacon

Sadly it will be difficult to bankrupt a government run institution. When the university runs short of tax money, they just get more and our taxes go up.

      • Hard Little Machine

Fine – let admissions drop to near zero and graduations go to zero. Who cares?

The protesters say they want to go after islamaphobic and anti gay behavior. What will they do when the moslem students start beating up and or killing the queers?

Students are revolting in Sheffield, or at least more than they usually are.

Demonstrators of The Free University of Sheffield movement released four key demands, the third of which was for non-cooperation with the government’s perfunctory attempts at anti-radicalization. It must be an oversight that they didn’t add BDS to the list.

They want the Vice Chancellor to kow-tow to student soviets along the lines of those at Warwick and LSE.

They see themselves as students treated as consumers – passive recipients of information for the sake of employability – and want to be treated as “producers of knowledge”.

They whine that the heating isn’t turned on for the rooms they have occupied
