TOPSHOT - A handout picture released by the Turkish Coast Guard shows a migrant, identified as 20-year-old Pelen Hussein from Syria, standing on top of a capsized boat as he waits to be rescued by members of the Turkish Coast Guard Air Command in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Edremit, northwestern Turkey, on February 8, 2016. Twenty-seven migrants, 11 of them children, drowned on February 8 off Turkey's Aegean coast as they tried to reach a Greek island, the Turkish coast guard said. The Royal Navy must turn the migrant boats back, even if that puts lives at risk

“You come at the king, you best not miss.” Omar Little’s advice in The Wire is sound. If you’re going to something, do it properly and see it through to the end, even if it’s bloody and painful.

Those words should have been ringing in the ears of the Prime Minister as he announced that: ‘the Royal Navy is deploying amphibious landing ship royal fleet auxiliary (RFA) Mounts Bay alongside 2 border force cutters to join the Nato mission in the Aegean Sea that aims to reduce the flow of migrants from Turkey to Europe.’

The point is not the presence of naval power, the point is its actual deployment. But read further into Cameron’s announcement and you can see the Royal Navy are not going to be in the business of stopping the boats, just spying on them…

Political bravery and Call-me-Dave? I don’t think so.

    • Justin St.Denis

The very sound of the word ‘Dave’ probably makes all seven of Cameron’s whiskers bristle.

About time someone turned their dinghies around! They weren’t invited, nor are they wanted. So turn them ALL right back around from where ever it is they came!!!

  • luna

    Sink them.

    • If Europe shot at a few incoming boats, the invaders would stop coming. The present situation is entirely due to the fact that invaders by boat were not stopped immediately a few years ago. Once they saw there was no self-defense in their way, they came in droves.

Mine the ports until the Turks get the message.

    • Shebel

I never much cared for the Turks.

  • Dana Garcia

It’s just mean-spirited to stop the invasion. Feelings will be hurt and desire thwarted.

  • Barrington Minge

Her hear, turn them back, unload them and sink the boats..

  • Where there’s no will, there’s no way. Pretending to do is not doing. Might as well stay at the pub and wait for the Muslim invaders to come and get you there.

David Cameron is not a genuine male person, if you follow…

He’s a beta male who wishes he was an alpha male (read that somewhere).

A Royal Fleet Auxialliary (RFA)ship is not a war ship. The RFA is the logistics tail of the RN. In most navies logistical support ships are part of the navy, in the RN they are not. The sailors on them are civilians.
