The ‘anti-racist’ crowd have resorted to the old politics of racism

The self-important slayers of ‘cultural appropriation’ have gone too far this time. Clearly they didn’t get a big-enough moral kick from chastising white people who do yoga (on the basis that yoga has ‘roots in Indian culture’), moaning about Beyonce donning a sari (‘how is this different from white folks wearing cornrows?’, the racial police demanded), and fuming about middle-class indie kids who wear Native American headdresses at music festivals (apparently this‘perpetuates damaging, archaic and racist stereotypes’).

So now they’re turning their fire on a black actress who, in their view, is not black enough to play Nina Simone. Yes, even black people can now be accused of being insufficiently black for certain cultural pursuits.

    Should she wear blackface then?

    • Crazy ain’t it

I read it and then wondered if it was translated into english. It made so little sense it was like someone used google translate to convert it into some obscure Tibetian dialect and the google translated it back into english.

It was also pointed out that she wore blue face and green face in a
couple of sci fi movies. Good thing it was all just fiction or we would have the
      whole galaxy pissed at us.

    She`s also much too beautiful.

    • Clink9

      Uhura ….. Space babe …

  • Shebel

    For me–she looks pretty Black.

  • Barrington Minge

She is far too good looking to play Si-moan, who was a dog.
Si-moan was a one trick pony – rehashed the song from Hair
so many times I almost died of boredom..

    • Justin St.Denis

Barrington, sometimes you come across as an uncouth troglodyte. Nina Simone may not have been your cup of tea, but she was no one-trick pony.

      • Barrington Minge

        In your opinion…..

  • Shebel

Not ALL Black females are ugly .

  • Raymond Cameron

Is barak obama black enough to be a black president?

    • AlanUK

He is not and never has been the “First Black President”.
He is half black, half white. Anything else is a lie!

  • Hard Little Machine

Will they cover Nina Simone’s allegiance to the most radical aspects of the black panther movement, her calls for the violent overthrow of the US and the mass murders of white people? All of which eventually lead to her leaving the US for Europe for the rest of her life? Or are they going to skip over all that in order to make an Obligatory Significant Black Movie ™?

In the movie “Bessie”, they show how Bessie Smith would hole up a card and the women in he show had to be as dark as darker. As she she said “No yellow bitch in my show!”. This was due to the fact that she often could not get work because (black) producers would hold up a card and she would have to be lighter…so this stuff is decades old.
