Should women have the right to take time off during their periods?

happy-tamponA company in Bristol has decided to give its employees menstrual leave.

Coexist, the organisation behind a community arts centre in Stokes Croft, is planning to give employees the right to take time off that would not be regarded as sick leave.

That’s sexist!

Was this demanded by the men who have to work with them?

    • Ouch;)

      • andycanuck

        That’s what she said!

      Gold Jerry.

If only Melissa Harris Perry had that option at MSNBC! LOL

I think it’s not a bad idea so long as it’s not abused.

    • Justin St.Denis

But the Sisterhood will take this INCH and push it to a MILE. It’s what they do…..

  • El Martyachi

It’s not as though productivity would drop.

There’s a bit of Billy in all of us.. if we’re honest with ourselves…

Women do not suffer from menstrual problems – they have menstrual problems.MEN SUFFER FROM THEIR MENSTRUAL PROBLEMS.

    • granny47

      LOL!

    • Clausewitz

It’s called PMS. Poor Me Syndrome.

  • Exile1981

They are a private company; as long as they do not take public funds the decision to give this leave is between them and their shareholders.

Strange idea to broadcast a woman’s monthly period.

[Emp1] Where’s Lucy? She was invited to this meeting.
    [Emp2] Um,she’s – cough- off today.
    [Emp1] Oh. . .

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Strange to broadcast my aches and pains from hard labour.
The back the knees and the other things that I have put up with since I was an fourteen year old kid working.

  • Canadian

Fine way to find out who`s pregnant.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

      Never thought of that.
I’m too far removed from my own.
Remembering wiping my kids bums is such a so long time ago thing.

  • BillyHW

Women in the workplace are a joke. When they are not PMSing on everybody they are crying their eyes out or getting fat on cake.

    • Frances

Not in my office. It’s been 50:50 incompetents in the last little while.

      • David Murrell

BillyHW hates women. And he has no idea what a menstrual period is. Not a clue.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

My wife has sent me out to get her pads late at night.
I rip off the box top and take it with me so I can grunt that I need a box of these.
And I don’t care what any loser who is behind me in line with a copy of super heroes today thinks.
Have your own kids comic boy.

          • David Murrell

The reason I take on BillyHW is that he is a pro-Muslim troll, out to destroy this BCF web site. It’s a pity that, as a quisling willing to well out Canadian values, he has gotten so far at this site.

          • Justin St.Denis

            Agree with you 100%.

          • El Martyachi

It could be that you might be taking things in the BCF comment-section safe-space a touch too seriously, at times. Get better!

Nope. A dhimmi I am not. If an Islamist like BillyHW comes on, I have the quisling in my gunsights. This safe-space gives him the right to spew his Islamist bs; but this same safe space gives me the right to denounce him. I am NOT a dhimmi.

Buying tampons is kind of like wearing a wedding ring.
Sometimes it attracts women in the grocery store.

    • Mannie

Some of my best workers are women, and it’s hard, dirty physical work.

But if women are to get several days a month off for menstruation, men should get as many days off for hunting and fishing.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

If only they would have ‘bring a hooker to work day’…

        • You mean you don’t?!

          Uptight Christianist yankees.

        • By the way, are Californians yankees?

I’m occasionally amused by the way stump-toothed cousin-humpin’ gun-lovin’ rural southerners are erroneously called “yanks” or etc. by certain sophisticates. Now I know southerners ain’t yankees. But what about all-y’all?

(Bear in mind that I take SDA Kate McMillan’s view that North America* is best imagined vertically.)

*Mexico is technically part of North America, but that’s a whole different bowl of enchilada.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

Californians are neither fish nor fowl as far as the Yankee question is concerned. No real southerner would ever call a Californian a Yankee, as they have other derogatory names for us. Yankee states are predominantly meaning east of the Mississippi River states that fought for the Union during the US Civil War (AKA: “The War of Northren Agression”).
Technically, we were on the Union side, but only barely (only a few votes shy of succession ourselves), however we were never a slave state either. When you get into the early history of California, we considered ourselves Texas 2.0 and that is reflected in our state flag if you know where to look. Essentially we sat out the civil war, although you might find some token contribution if you looked hard enough.

Mexico might be geographically considered North America, but culturally it is Centeral America, and always will be, and culture is what really matters.

North American (that excludes Mexico) is strictly a Canadian term that I have fallen in to using to describe the US and Canada but almost no American really uses that term. We either say Canada, America, or Canada and America. Geographically, and as a kid, I was taught that everything north of Columbia was North America, but nobody other than cartographers thinks that way either.

        • El Martyachi

I dunno… a lot of workplace-women are basically hookers already.

      • BillyHW

        You run a mudwrestling operation?

        • El Martyachi

          Nice

  • Clausewitz

Will this also be given to all of the Mangina’s that seem to be popping up on the labour front?

  • canminuteman

So it’s a company that doesn’t actually do anything of value (and probably exists of government grants) so it really doesn’t matter whether the employees are there anyway. It’s only an income redistribution organization.
