A Basic Income For Ontario? Province Plans Pilot Project As Part Of Budget

The government of Ontario is planning to launch a pilot project to test out a guaranteed basic income.

Why over the last 2 years or so has this idea become a topic of increased discussion?

Basic income = Welfare without trying to find a job

Regular white men need not apply

    • Something awful is coming.

        Denyse should be ecstatic, though.

Yes it is. We are going in the direction of Venezuala.

If you give everyone free money every month then you have a permanent voting base.

        • It’s what they have done to a lesser extent with the Free Tuition scam, it was a sop to the admins and instructors of the universities. Almost a guaranteed income.

A friend was saying that only certain programs are covered for free tuition and that nobe of the STEM ones were covered. Is that true

      Don’t forget Glen Murray.
Should fags have the franchise if women can’t?

Which the majority of the money will go back to the government in taxes. That’s how socialists are which believe that only government knows what’s best for the people and that only they know how to spend our money.

They must have money to burn, right?

    • They don’t own the printing press that I’m aware of.

Ah, you haven’t heard about the new currency, the Ontario Shekel?

Kevin O’Leary pegged it — the dollarette!

As you and many others have been saying for years, people tend to re-elect parties that give them the most money. Those on welfare don’t tend to vote parties that will cut welfare rates, government service unions will back the highest bidder, etc. This is a way to try and get everyone on “the system”. Except for the highest earners, this is ensuring as many people are directly getting hooked on the teat of government money.

    • Eventually the money runs out and then you get Detroit.

Do you mean we all become blacks???

It’s hard to beat Santa Claus come election time.

Hey, let’s get with the program. I like Switzerland’s pension. Let’s get that going here ASPA. I’m almost at the end of the road so why should I give a shit. Good Christ get rid of these liberal progressives before the whole country implodes.

The idea of basic income is a good thing as it would replace all social programs but in Canada we have people wanting it to be a top up to other programs which would reward people on welfare even more.

In the book, The Great Divide, Why Liberals and Conservatives will Never, Ever Agree, author William D. Gairdner talks about tripartite states.

    These are jurisdictions where roughly:
⅓ of people are employed either directly or indirectly by government
⅓ of the people receive social benefits from the government
⅓ of the people provide the economic wherewithal of the economy

Problems occurs when elections are called.

Those dependent on the government for their income (⅓ of the people) and those dependent on the government for social benefits (⅓ of the people) vote for the party that promises to increase their income and/or their social benefits.

Elections become like two wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner.
