Inside Jeb Bush’s $150 Million Failure

Jeb Bush, the Republican establishment’s last, best hope, began his 2016 campaign rationally enough, with a painstakingly collated operational blueprint his team called, with NFL swagger, “The Playbook.”

On page after page kept safe in a binder, the playbook laid out a strategy for a race his advisors were certain would be played on Bush’s terms – an updated, if familiar version of previous Bush family campaigns where cash, organization and a Republican electorate ultimately committed to an electable center-right candidate would prevail.

The other good news is that the Power Brokers, the former denizens of the Smoke Filled Rooms, have pissed away some $150 million that they will not get back.

“We’ve had enough Bushes,” Barbara Bush last summer
Hillary’s caucus goers were not registered when voting.

    • Thanks, I have been following the allegations which seem to follow Hillary around.

    • “Hillary’s caucus goers were not registered…”

They probably manipulate their internal voting system. I suspect the NDP in Canada does the same when choosing Party leaders/candidates — it’s a facade of democracy, the candidates are pre-chosen by Party bosses (same system with Left-wing Unions).

That’s why I’m against electronic-Internet voting — too easy to write an algorithm to hack or modify results. Canada unfortunately introduced electronic voting for the first time here in a recent by-election — it’s going mainstream.

      • The Dems have Super Delegates, it is “legal” cheating.

        • That too should be cleaned up. I think Trump mentioned at one point that he wants to get rid of Superpacs — good timing because Superpacs were totally useless this time round, not to mention unfair anyway.

  • Hard Little Machine

It was obvious from the start that Bush’s weakness was his own indifference to being president. He never seemed that thrilled by and was going through the motions.

    • Trump was right he’s low energy.

      • Clausewitz

If he was a smidgen more low energy, he would be dead.

      “It’s an act of love…” sure didn’t help…

      • dance…dancetotheradio

It’s an act of love was supremely offensive.

  • Dana Garcia

Nice that even Politico recognizes that Jeb!’s extralegal views on illegal immigration (“act of love”) were a big part of sinking his establishment campaign.

  • Ron MacDonald

American have had their fill with professional politicians, I can’t wait until Canadians feel the same way.

I wish it were that easy, the west’s dislike of the east and vice versa are so strong that both sides don’t care who they vote for as long as it pisses off the other group.

      • Quebec is like a millstone in many ways, equalization has created a dependent class of provinces

        • dance…dancetotheradio

Quebec can’t leave Canada because they can’t afford to.

  • Norman_In_New_York

That Bush’s advisers thought the public was desirous of another round of Bush vs. Clinton is the height of stupidity.

    • Good Lord. If that was their thinking the GOP needs to be disbanded.

    • Clausewitz

Going back about a year ago I was listening to a radio station that was putting forward that very scenario. This was my initial reaction…………..

  • dance…dancetotheradio

    We don’t need another hero.

As one wag put it, Jeb was born on third base and managed to get thrown out at first. 😀
