Socialism Has Failed Spectacularly, But the Young Fans of Sanders Never Got That History Lesson

Many people of mature years are amazed at how many young people have voted for Senator Bernie Sanders, and are enthusiastic about the socialism he preaches.

Many of those older people have lived long enough to have seen socialism fail, time and again, in countries around the world. Venezuela, with all its rich oil resources, is currently on the verge of economic collapse, after its heady fling with socialism.

But, most of the young have missed all that, and their dumbed-down education is far more likely to present the inspiring rhetoric of socialism than to present its dismal track record.

  • No, they never got that lesson. If there’s one thing more than another that conservatives really, really dropped the ball on over the last few decades, it was ceding control of the education system to the left.

There was Bill Buckley, being frightfully erudite and witty on TV. And what good did that do in the long term?

Vaguely related: this always cracks me up:

    • The long march continues.

      • North or South Korea, where would you rather be poor?

    • Conservatives ceded control of ALL socially-related institutions to the Socialists after the fall of the Soviet Union. The reasoning was: “Communism is dead forever, all we need is global capitalism and we will achieve capitalist utopia! Let the the socialists deal with social stuff”. It was asinine (that’s why I hated idiots like Mike Harris — capitalism was an ideology rather than something pragmatic). So in the end what have we got? Certainly not global capitalism; rather global socialism, happy-go-lucky Islamic fascism, and a new brand new religion to boot — Global Climatism!

Bernie people think there’s this thing called “wealth,” that’s just out there, and by golly it’s in too few hands. So the thing to do with “wealth” is share it more. There’s lots of “wealth” so vote for Bernie and get some. Where “wealth” comes from has never been of interest to the left. Marx had no interest in the topic.

For the ignorant and immature nothing sounds better than being able to get all the free money and things you want without having to get off your butt and earn them. That, along with an “education” controlled by the Left, is the most likely reason. It is like giving a 6 year old free run of a candy store.

The Bernie acolytes show how successful high school and college propaganda has become. Many will grow out of it when the reality of life and economics catches up with them, but they are still able to vote far too early.

The voting age should be raised to at least 25, when brains have finished growing and young people hopefully have gotten a little sense post-college.

Never a socialist and always identified with conservatives.
After my paper route I got a job washing dishes in a hotel kitchen at the age of fourteen.
My first paycheque showed me how much the government hates me by what they took off the top.
Back in those days I used to work Thursday nights, Friday nights, Saturday days and sometimes I’d work fifteen hours on Sundays for no overtime just because if I had said anything I would have had that extra shift taken away.

      • Was never a socialist either, nevertheless voted Liberal all my life until Harper came along, and once even voted NDP (Gary Doer). But that was before I knew anything about Canadian politics and realized that the Libs were Socialists and the Dippers were hard-core Commies. Now they’re both hard-core Commies.

Usually Socialist/Commie politicians try to hide the fact — Fronts are their M.O. Bernie isn’t hiding the fact. A curious change in M.O. What do you think it means?

        • dance…dancetotheradio

I think it means President Trump.
Bernie is the repudiation of the Clinton machine.
Of not having any real alternative on their side.
And he’s promising them candy and unicorns.
(Old political joke: Remember Sharon Carstairs? I saw Gary Doer.)
The US media are lobbying to get state protection for their failing business model under the pretense of their position as public servants.

          • Knew nothing about pooh-bear country politics while there (one year wasn’t even long enough to boink Winnie). But I know you’re from there, so riddle me the joke. Who’s Sharon Carstairs?

          • dance…dancetotheradio

I was having a conversation with my kids.

          • Now you’re screwing with my head again, dance. I knew I shouldn’t have used the word “riddle”.

        • Norman_In_New_York

The only reason Bernie has gotten as far as he has is because of Hillary’s negatives. Even Bill Clinton today is remembered largely for boinking interns and hillbilly chicks.

  • Bernie was hand-picked by the Democratic Party to run against Clinton in order to ensure the coronation of Clinton — he’s old, unattractive, and adheres to 19th Century Marxism. Except Democrats forgot that they have already indoctrinated an entire generation into that anachronistic ideology as if it were something “forward-thinking” and progressive. These kids don’t think Marxism is simply rhetoric — they’re ready for revolution. The U.S. is at the tipping point.

She’s old, unattractive, and adheres to 19th Century Marxism.
Also, she’s in poor health, treats her staff poorly, a lesbernan and has negligently allowed Americans to be killed.
Appending the email scandal and her war on the women who accused her geriatric husband of sexual abuse is not something I think she can dismiss.
Especially, in a debate, when Trump brings all of these things into the public discourse.

History? Don’t need history just look at Venezuela

Too busy worshipping at the altar of Howard Zinn and his evil Peoples’ History bullshit.

One of Bernie Sanders plan is to tax the “rich” without giving a definition of what rich is. But let’s say for discussion it is the top 10% of the income bracket. It is always individuals with money who create businesses and employ people rarely if ever a poor person will. By taxing these individuals more they will have less resources to start businesses, employ people there by creating more wealth.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

In Bernie’s world anyone who makes twenty bucks an hour is rich.

      • Unless they’re in a Union. Then even if they’re making sixty bucks an hour sitting in an air-conditioned office snorting a line of coke while manipulating a robot arm to plop car doors on an assembly line, they’re the equivalent of an exploited Kratchet shovelling coal for Scrooge for a sixpence in 19th Century Dickens’ England.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

Fuck, I have made that deal with the devil.
          Only for my kids.

          • You’re getting me to think about my kids, who I try to keep out of my thoughts, because I think I lost them a long time ago.

True story: Three or four years ago I was standing outside the library having a smoke. A short young black fellow who I had never seen before in my life, walked up to me out of the blue and said: “It must be tough to lose your family”. I said “what, do I know you from somewhere?” He replied, “I know it must be really tough to lose your family”. I glared at him, I swear I was ready to beat him so bad that I’m pretty sure he would either end up hospitalized or dead (and I would go to jail). So I turned and started to walk away instead, but then I turned back, I thought “fuck it, I’m going to kill him!”. Except he was gone — I looked everywhere and couldn’t find him. He disappeared as quickly as he had appeared.

The fact is I had been doing everything I possibly could at that point in my life to keep things going with my kids. It was all wasted energy — they didn’t want me, and now I don’t want them anymore either but it took me years to finally embrace that reality. I honestly don’t know if the mysterious young man was the “devil” trying to taunt me, or an “angel” trying to warn me.

But if you have your kids, then hang on to them for dear life my brother. Things are only going to get worse in this country, believe me Canada is not a family-friendly place. You are a man most fortunate and I admire your dedication.

  • RevnantDream

They never will even with Argentina as an example, because being young they have no clue about human nature & communism sounds so Utopian

Look around the world dunderheads! Show me one socialist state or country that works to the benefit of all! Tax the middle class out of existence, promise free medical, schooling and welfare for all, cater to every looney fringe groups request and drive the country into debt that it will not ever get out of even in your great grand children s time, destroy all national pride and achievements, destroy your countries faith and beliefs, blame everybody but yourself for the economic and cultural destruction that will follow. Remember Leftist governments love surveillance and usually make people disappear that talk out against them. Clinton/Sanders/Obama all watermelons, green on the outside, red on the inside.

    • Not even the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics (USSR)?
