Reasonable doubt means acquittal in Ghomeshi case

By way of contrast, in the criminal trial, the standard is much higher: It is not enough to show the complainants may be telling the truth, despite their inconsistencies and subsequent conduct — rather, the correct question to ask is reversed and framed as follows: Given the inconsistencies and conduct (and other factors), is it possible that the events did not occur as alleged? Mr. Ghomeshi does not need to prove that the complainants are lying or mistaken; he only needs to show that they “might be.” He loses the real trial only if the judge is sure that they are not.

Should Ghomeshi be found not guilty, he will probably initiate legal proceedings against all his accusers.

    • The Butterfly

He could probably sue the CBC too, and win.

Please tell me there are more witnesses and they are not all batshit crazy like the ones we’ve seen so far.

The Crown gets to pick whose complaints to lay charges over. Maybe they took the “worst” ones on purpose?

      naa, doubt it

yer talkin CBC Toronto Liberal elite here

      • David Murrell

Exactly. Ghomeshi is part of that powerful CBC elite, so I hope the third complainant is rock solid, unlike the first two.

        • Waffle

No, David. He isn’t part of the elite — he’s just one of their pet multi-cultis, probably because he’s kind of cute. I agree with Andy. Jian with all his kinky festishes more than likely has friends in high places that he’s got something on.

May I respectfully suggest that only batshit crazy would have anything to do with the iranian.

    • Physics grad

Think about it – his victims are all completely indoctrinated diversity SJW CBC types – they are by definition all batshit crazy and have acted against their own self preservation by engaging sexually with the muslim Ghomeshi, so do not expect that in their confused state of cognitive dissonance that they will make good witnesses against their own cause.

This is how the Goodwill Ontario bankruptcy audit is going to go.

  • Dare I say it?

This is why witnesses should be impeccable.

    • It’s very ugly again today. Changed police statement. But this one appears to have been a bit more level headed in the end.

Do I think gomeshi is innocent? No, but these women have to take responsibility for what happened to them. If the testimony we are hearing is actually the truth, I wouldn’t convict him. It is not surprising that these women can’t remember these events in great perfect detail. The events in question were more than a decade ago. If it was important to them, and they were blameless they probably would have gone to the cops at the time. On the other hand, I find it odd that Gomeshi still has all these emails and letters ten years after the fact, unless he thought he might need them. If you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Maybe its just me, but all these people make me want to puke.

  • Brett_McS

So what new show will this guy be given after all this?

    • DavidinNorthBurnaby

Doesn’t matter. No-one will watch or listen, yet the CBC will advertise it as a “hit” and throw lots of taxpayers’ $$$ at him.
