Twitter has fun new plan to piss off all its users by becoming incomprehensible

As early as next week, Twitter is planning to replace the reverse chronological stream with one that’s powered algorithmically, surfacing tweets that are most relevant or timely, not just those that are most recent.

    #twittersucks is trending.

  • eMan14

    I don’t use twitter.

  • Me Here

It’s to bloody late for that. It is a virus and should be treated as one.

    • Meh. It’s a diversion, sometimes informative. I usually like it, in small doses, but if it dies, I’ll survive.

Anyway I doubt this (whatever exactly “this” is) will happen. The negative feedback seems to be overwhelming.

Too bad the same rule-of-thumb does not also apply to unpopular government initiatives.

    What is Twatter anyway?

  • tom_billesley

The “most relevant” tweets will not be those that have politically incorrect “problematic” content or from those who habitually make them.

    • I don’t use twitter but it sounds ridiculous. With most services you can simply set up your personal preferences to either sort by “most recent” or by “most relevant” or however you want to set it up. Seems like way too much control exercised by twitter and wouldn’t surprise me if third-party programmers are already writing apps to bypass it. Give it a week or so then do an internet search on “freeware twitter apps” or “freeware twitter sorting” and I’ll bet that nerds will already have free programs written to bypass it.

I have never looked at twitter.

    • Justin St.Denis

Twitter – like all “free” social media platforms – is inherently toxic. It turns its “tweeters” into product, which is then marketed and sold to the highest bidder. Lunch is not “for free” if you are obliged to eat it in a padlocked cell.

“tweets that are most relevant or timely”

  • Xavier

Rhymes with shitter for a reason.

The tweeter is proof that ten thousand (or ten million) monkeys cannot produce even 140 characters of Shakespeare.
