Syrian regime encircles Aleppo under Russian air power

Syrian government forces cut rebel supply lines to Aleppo under cover of Russian air power on Wednesday, in what could be a pivotal moment in the five-year war.

After three days of intense fighting and aerial bombardment, regime forces, believed to include Iran-backed Shia militias, broke through to the formerly besieged regime enclaves of Nobul and Zahra.

In so doing, they cut rebel-held eastern Aleppo off from outside help.

Did you ever notice that all of the western media body counts stopped more than a year ago? I’d declare the war over and walk away. Seems to have been solved. Carry on!

Turkey is whining that “tens of thousands” are heading for their border, displaced by fighting north of Aleppo.

Assad pere and the French before him were more into heavy artillery when it came to dealing with any Syrian city districts full of overly troublesome muslims. Times change. It will be interesting to see if the usual decade of quiet reflection going forward is still the norm.
