We’ve Got It Wrong: ISIS Is Not the Main Problem in the Middle East

On a recent reporting trip to Iraq and northern Syria, two things were made apparent to me — one of them relatively encouraging, the other far less so. The encouraging news is that ISIS is currently in a state of retreat. Not headlong rout, but contraction.

This is what concerns me about general focus on ISIS (for example, with DJ Trump), while Netanyahu continues to remind us that Iran is only becoming more ever more dangerous.

Since the author is Israeli, he shares Netanyahu’s posture of neutrality toward the inter-Muslim bloodletting. Israel will act only if directly threatened or if the main population of Syrian Druze is attacked.
