Facebook Is PURGING Accounts That Use ‘Hate Speech’ Against Muslim Immigrants In Europe

It looks like Facebook is beginning to shut down accounts in Europe that speak out against Muslim immigrants because that’s considered “hate speech.”

Merkel has a word with Mark Zuckerberg

Merkel has a word with Mark Zuckerberg

From Mediaite:

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO, wasted no time leaning in and explaining that because hate speech “has no place in our society,” the site will be implementing its “Initiative for Civil Courage Online,” which will slowly but surely purge Europe of all xenophobic rhetoric. Facebook is doing this by allocating $1.09 million to support non-government organizations that are attempting to curb online threats and hate speech.

The platform already has rules that ban harassment and threats, but the Initiative for Civil Courage Online takes this opposition to the next level.

In Germany, especially, hateful speech regarding the influx of refugees has been a problem that officials have spoken out against repeatedly. In November, prosecutors in Hamburg began investigating Facebook for not doing enough to prevent the dissemination of hate speech, according to Reuters. The Initiative comes on the heels of this investigation and a public urging from Chancellor Angela Merkel for the social media company to do more to prevent online harassment.

Liberals just don’t understand human nature. American liberals hate guns and cause gun sales to skyrocket; German liberals hate dissent about immigration – what do you think will happen?

    • El Martyachi

I think that Germans aren’t Americans.

      • Xavier

        What do you mean?

        • El Martyachi

…. that Germans and Americans won’t necessarily respond similarly.

          • Xavier

People other than Germans use Facebook.

          • Xavier

Do you think they will only censor comments made in the German language?

          • Xavier

So if a non-German makes a “hateful” comment do you think it won’t be censored?

          • Xavier

The response isn’t limited to Germans – just as a Canadian blog can have commenters from other countries, so can German Facebook pages.

If they are going to police Facebook (and other social media, because it says “all xenophobic rhetoric”) it will have to be every account in the world.

On the other hand, for Facebook to allocate a million dollars sounds like a payoff to get the Germans off their back. A million is chump change in the SJW world.

          • Physics grad

Germans and American democrats are both nazis

  • Ho Hum

I don’t understand this. Islam = fascism. Millions of Jews were exterminated in Germany by fascists. Zuckerberg is a Jew. Why is he facilitating the rise of a new form of fascism in Germany? Who benefits?

    • Xavier

      He’s Jewicidal.

      • Ho Hum

        LOL! good one!

        • Xavier

I have to credit Pamela Geller for that one. 😉

        • David Murrell

I.e., Zuckerberg’s pile of money trumps any love he might of had for his Jewish brethrren.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Zuckerberg wins because if he does the state’s bidding, he can ask for special legislative protection. Protection that makes him money.
It’s not that he thinks the alligator will eat him last, he hold the alligator’s leash.

What might have happened to Jews in WWII is almost irrelevant to that type. He could care less about Jews, you, or me.

    • V10_Rob

Same reason some Jews backed the Nationalist Socialists in the early years, they considered themselves Germans first, and wrote it off as boilerplate European anti-semitism that had existed forever. They didn’t think of themselves as one of those exploiting boogeymen, and neither did their friends and neighbors think that of them. They were, you know, one of the good Jews.

Zuckerberg (and others), you may not consider yourself a Jew first and foremost. But a great many muslims do, and they are not going to take the time for you to explain your carefully nuanced opinion on Israel or Zionism, or how you spent your time fighting islamophobia.

    • pdxnag

Same reason we all trade with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, etc.

  • tom_billesley

    “Initiative for Civil Courage Online,”
…. a masterful use of the newspeak for Civil Pusillanimity Online.
First eradicate the speech, then the speakers.

  • V10_Rob

    ‘Civil Courage’

I love the Orwellianism of it.

Off topic; Is anyone else having trouble logging on to twitter?

    • Xavier

It’s down for some users. Hold on I’ll get the company statement.

‘Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution’ – Twitter

    • Drunk_by_Noon

      I’m good here in California.

  • David Murrell

No chance Facebook will shut down Islamic hate speech against Jews and other non-Muslims, eh? Facebook as a corporation will go downhill from here.

  • Justin St.Denis

    Angela Merkel needs to die.

I wonder if that would be considered “hate speech” on Facbook these days. It wasn’t intended as such. It was intended as an observation that Merkel, who shows no intention of resigning, needs to go, and that her sudden death would remove the necessity for her voluntary resignation.

    • mobuyus

How ironic if her sudden death was due to her sudden mascots.

    • Xavier

      Metaphorically, of course.

Oh what the hell: they need to hang her from a lamp post and let the birds pluck out her eyes. She has doomed not only her country but its citizens too, and probably most of Europe as well.

      I am guilty.

      • moraywatson

It’s her political career that needs to die.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

        Maybe even symbolically too

  • BillyHW

    Zuckerberg is a tool.

  • Hard Little Machine

Good. We’ll be able to see the flames from space soon.

  • roccolore

Sandberg and Zuckerberg don’t have to worry about jihadists trying to kill them.

    • Exile1981

      yet.

      • roccolore

Correct. They have armed security and live in all-white communities.

  • Etobicoke_Gladiator

    Zuck off!

  • Exile1981

When will pro 2nd ammendment be classified by facebook as a hate speech?

  • Physics grad

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO, wasted no time leaning in and explaining that the site will slowly but surely purge Europe of Facebook…

  • ismiselemeas

That’s a lot of advertising power they’re going to lose if that’s the case.

  • Norman_In_New_York

Because the capacity of the Internet is infinite, I predict alternate sites will spring up as Facebook becomes more institutionalized.
