Conservative leadership contest fractious before race begins

The Conservative party will release the rules for the contest to replace Stephen Harper within the month, but there are already signs it will be a fractious affair.

The committee convened to draw up the rules for the race will meet Friday at Toronto’s Albany Club to hammer out the date of the vote, the nomination deadline, spending limits, the entrance fee and the appeals process.

But sources within the party’s national council say the membership of the leadership executive organizing committee (LEOC) is stacked with supporters of John Walsh, the party president.

What we need is Donald Trump like personality to save this country.
The conservatives have turned yellow bellied, bleeding heart, progressive kind of red tories, no hope from them.

    • Exile1981

It hasn’t gotten bad enough in Canada yet for a Canadian Trump to get elected.

true bad the ecomics situation won’t start really hitting home for most Canadians until this fall when the thousands of alberta families who lost jobs in 2015 run out of EI.

Or when the food shortages and low loonie value push a loaf of bread above $5.

Then you will see people screaming and paying attention.

          • Minicapt

For him, being a Newfy was of greater importance than being Conservative.

To revive their fortunes and to win the next federal election what the CPC needs are the likes of outliers who bring to the party what Trump, Carson, Fiorina and Cruz brought to the Republican Party.

    • Exile1981

I’m pretty sure it was only $5 when i bought my membership back in the 80’s. Other than that there no other requirements to join.

We must put pressure on Canada’s civic spirited rent seeking oligarchs and elite government bureaucrats to give us a sign how the Conservative Party can be their bitch. Once the party knows which policies are hot, then it will be up to the new leader to betray the base and get ready to govern.
