A friend tells me,
AI USA recently issued a statement supporting the decriminalization of buying sex, though this protects the pimps and buyers more than the women and children. AI Canada is set to vote on the same policy this year.
But, in an age where morality is a user illusion and all value systems are equal, why are the pimps and buyers less worthy of protection than the women and children?
Doesn’t it come down to where progressives can secure the choicest berths in the bureaucracy?
Some don’t agree with AI, for example: An Open Letter to Amnesty International USA: Informed Consent is No Match for Coercion:
Former sex workers admit that where there is adult prostitution, there is child sex trafficking. The fact that Germany, which legalized prostitution and subsequently experienced a spike in human trafficking, needed to ban bestiality because of too many animal deaths due to extreme sexual practices should give us warning about the ramifications of our social policies. People aren’t born with a desire to have sex with animals (it makes no – or extremely little – evolutionary sense). So, how many children had to be abused before the men who need to rape a dog to death no longer felt the same rush when abusing children? We need to think deeply about this while we debate and decide how to best help society, not just the women and children who are enslaved.
Testimony of former workers opposed to the move is offered.
Reality check: The flaw in any such scheme is the notion that everyone is a “rational actor” and moral consideration are optional.
Legalizing prostitution simply makes trafficking in minors easier—the girls most in demand have the least control over what happens to them anyway. And once the practice is accepted as a routine business matter, the use of the minors is merely an infraction. Especially if they are in no position to complain. Would they rather go back to the Third World family who sold them, who thought that getting rid of them for money was a better bargain than raising a dowry?
Almost the only power the prostitute has over her pimp is that he is demonstrably in an illegal position just by doing what he is doing.
The women who are most likely to have any say are the older ones who are less desired. If johns want the older gals, they could try being nice to their wives or women at their social club… but no …
The main reason sex workers are frequent victims of assault and murder is that their business puts them in much more contact with sociopathic male behaviour than the average day job does.
Prediction: The next big progressive move is of course to ask, what’s so wrong with sex with minors anyway? What’s the big deal about the “age of consent”? Then to legitimize it and teach it in Catholic schools.
