Two Weaknesses Could Undo the Islamist Movement

The Islamist movement may appear stronger than ever, but a close look suggests two weaknesses that might doom it, and perhaps quickly.

There is lot of truth in what Pipes says. Mooslimes have been at each other’s throats for as long as there has been mooslimes. They kill each other at the drop of a hat.

Some of them have a saying that goes something like this: my tribe against your tribe; my family against your family, my bothers against your brothers, me against my brothers (of course no mention of women, who do NOT count).

  • Blacksmith

I find his facts to be solid but his conclusions are weak. Islam cannot get along with ANYONE else.

What Prof. Pipes is counting on is that temporal authorities in these countries will say “Enough already!” to the sectarian bloodbaths and put the imams and mullahs in their place. Islamism poses a greater threat to the lives of Muslims than to infidels. Egypt’s Al-Sisi has already spoken up and is taking on the fanatics.

Islamism seems to have a robust Venn Diagram overlap with literacy among Muslims. A Muslim that can read and who rejects the horrors of Islam would of course declare their apostasy.

Did you mean Islamism correlates strongly with illiteracy?

      • pdxnag

Pious Muslims who can read take comfort in the notion that “Allah” commands them to do evil. You see, it represents the word of god rather than just something some Imam barked. The evil is stark.
