France’s darkest secrets will be revealed today

Hidden details of France’s collaboration in the wartime Holocaust when tens of thousands of Jews were deported to their deaths are today publicly available for the first time.

Archives kept under lock and key for up to three quarters of a century have been opened for the first time, as the country faces up to its Nazi past.

All of the documents relate to the Vichy Regime, which was led by Marshal Philippe Petain between 1940 and 1944.

This was a time of often ethusiastic collaboration with the Third Reich, as French police and paramilitary organisations were among the many who rounded up ‘enemies of the state’ and sent them to Germany for extermination.

They’re trying to suck up to a certain restive segment of their population?

    • Ha! That could be the angle!

    • Drunk_by_Noon

You beat me to it Bret!

  • Sure, wait ’till everyone involved is dead.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

      Eh, HELLO!
That would be ‘gauche’ and most likely socially awkward for the followers of Vichy.

  • JoKeR

They seem to be reaping what they have sowed.

The only thing the French have to defend themselves against this fact is that they were so abominably disorganized and generally terrible at their jobs to make anything other than a hash of it. France sent 10’s of thousands of Jews to their deaths but Hitler was ceaselessly scream at them to do better than 25%.

  • Doug Kursk

How many underground resistance ‘heroes’ will be found to have been collaborators? How many hated Jews more than then they loved their country?

    • Mannie

Hey! The Resistance put up an incredible effort starting in 1946.

  • Spatchcocked

Every French garçon that refused service compris to a Boche was in the resistance…..Every French whore that charged extra to plank some Nasty was in the Maquis….

I grant you that the Nasty was in her maquis as well……

Un raisonable logical balance n’est pas?

  • Spatchcocked

Spatchcocked did very well smuggling Rothmans and Johnny Walker (Black)into Fwance in the late 60s and early 70s….
It was bribe bribe bribe….everybody was corruptible…..everybody.

But I can forgive a country a lot though when the wine is cheaper than the water….and the women and the food….even the so so looking honey pies were charmant….

This is weird. I was just reading about this stuff last night.
It was about the Heroes of the French Resistance —
and the 40,000 or so collaborators and what happened to those that did not flee to Germany.
