• I think our political systems are now in need of a great purge.

Term limits have to become mandatory.

Donations limited in amount by law and restricted to individuals.

The public service unions in Canada must have political activity proscribed and the bureaucracy slashed.

Who is going to vote in term limits?
I agree with you but that’s a pipe dream.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

Maybe Trump could arm-twist a constitutional amendment, because that’s what it would have to be.
2016 seems to be a “Quantum Year”. In that it is the year of all possibilities occurring simultaneously.
Remember this upcoming year folks; you will be telling your grandchildren of it, and most of what you say they will not believe.

        • Justin St.Denis

I suspect your prediction will prove to be correct.

      • It will take a populist groundswell.

        • Exile1981

I’m not sure that is enough. I’m pretty sure the US no longer has free and open elections.

Is it wrong to wish for a miracle this Christmas?

      • Alain

Yes that is the problem. They are not about to do anything that would end their life-time seat on the public gravy train.

    • Alain

I would only add that term limits should be all inclusive in that one cannot complete a term in one level of government only to parachute into another level of government such as jumping from provincial into federal or the reverse. Even municipal government should be included. We need to put an end to professional politicians.

      • Very true, the party system itself is part of the problem as it provides an infrastructure from “careers” are launched.

      • Justin St.Denis

Nice refinement, Alain. I am SO supportive of that!

    • Tom Forsythe

I disagree about campaign funding. The restrictions on individual donations have made politicians more dependent on the donor class, not less.

Plus, the left doesn’t need donations as much as the right, because they have the mainstream news, academia, the entertainment industry, and big labour.

    • Justin St.Denis

Agree STRONGLY on all points. When are you going to start fundraising for your campaign? Should you ever need an inside track to particular conservative research foundations and lobby groups, I can lend a hand. 😉

    • Trump is not part of the political class.

If Trump wins the election term limits has a chance.

Term limits would go a long way towards fixing what is wrong in Washington DC.

      • Minicapt

As a real estate dealer in New York City, he is part of the political class. When he suggests otherwise, he is lying.

  • Xavier

I never thought I’d say this: I will vote democrat to destroy the GOP.

    • Yikes!

    • Alain

Really? Voters in Alberta did pretty much the same and are paying for it big time. It is people like Trump who will aid in the destruction of the GOP; or rather their own self-destruction.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Likely you are not hurting or changing anything by doing that.
You are slapping one hand of the beast while shaking its other hand.
In the end, it’s still the same beast.
I have come to think that both parties are two sides of the same coin.
Look at Paul Ryan and what he just did.
      He’s not just a RINO he’s a friggin’ DIABLO.

      • Xavier

        All true but….

I expect the Democrats to fuck me over.
