Belgians respond to Brussels terror alert by flooding Twitter with cat pics

The stream of cat pics was sparked when the country’s federal police made a request on Twitter for the public to maintain silence about the ongoing counter-terror operations on social media, for fear of alerting potential targets of the raids to police movements.

I suppose they’re trying to stay calm and create a sense of normalcy – if Twitter had existed in the 1940’s, no doubt British folk in the bomb shelters would have been posting cat photos too. Entirely understandable, but the trouble is, I don’t think that the vast majority of Belgians (or Europeans in general) understand the gravity of the threat they are under – or the nature of it. The threat, of course, is the ideology of Islam, the Name that Cannot be Spoken (saw that on SDA).
