• It’s hard to argue against it.

    Stopped clock.

I’m going to have to figure out which order of knights I’m joining when he calls for the crusade. Everyone wants to be a templer but there were so many other orders which just don’t get the recognition.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

The Order of the Dragon, the Order of Saint George, and my favorite, the Militia of Jesus Christ.

      • Exile1981

Yeh, but none of them still practice at arms. I know it’s been 20+++ years but I used to daily sword practice with the local priest in my teens.

Even the Royal, Celestial and Military Order of Our Lady of Mercy and the Redemption of the Captives no longer fights to free captives of Islam, they just pray for Christians in Iraq to be freed.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

“The Order of the Blazing Cat” maybe?

          • Exile1981

Someday we have to get together and talk.

I don’t know if the Church would allow the Templar to reform… after all the torture and execution of the last set of leaders of the Templar.

  • DavidinNorthBurnaby

” … hope for this Pope is if he calls for a crusade.”
Oh, we will. A crusade against “Islamophobia”. :rolleyes

Now, despite his best efforts, the pope will be branded as politically incorrect.

“I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ’s heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends…Christ commands it!”

    Pope Urban II, 1095

I’m having a hard time imagining Francis saying that or anything like it.

    • Justin St.Denis

Agreed. Pope Evita turned in his cojones when he signed up with the Karl Marx Fan Club, like the others.

  • Dapto

This pope will form the knights templar then when everyone’s joined he’ll burn them all to the stake just like the pope did in the 1300’s. History repeating

  • carolmickle

It’s the Third World bringing their war to us….

    It’s not working.

  • Maneki-neko

Technically this war began 1400 years ago, so it’s really the first world war, not the third.

Like a stopped clock, even Pope Evita can be momentarily correct every now and then on an issue of relevance.

If this Pope were to call for a new Crusade to retake Jerusalem, how would Israel react that piece of news.
It might infringe on Israel’s sovereignty just a little, but might also totally reinvigorate their entire tourism industry.
    Tough call!

    • Exile1981

Having been to Jerusalem, the Jews were very glad to see Christian tourists… except for some of the really hard core ones at the wailing wall; they seemed less friendly; but that could be just the number of tourists standing their gawking while they pray.

Now the muslims were much less stabby back when I was there, but even then we had very explicit rules about being near mosques or going anywhere with muslims.

Actually the wording of the call to arms by Pope Urban II is in dispute – 5 contemporary sources have widely different wording but they mostly agree he actually called to liberate lands under muslim occupation. So if they called for the liberation of muslim held lands then I doubt Israel would have a problem.
