You Really Should Read More Kipling

Excerpted from “Gods of the Copybook Headings” by that deadest and whitest of all males, Rudyard Kipling. I consider him essential poetry, for people who otherwise hate poetry.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said:
“Stick to the Devil you know.”

That’s because ‘We the People’ and our ‘leaders’ want different things.
We want freedom.
They want money and power and will sell us all into bondage to get it.

I had never read that poem until I saw it quoted on resistance sites,

But I’m a pessimist. So far, it looks very dark for our civilization.

    Q: Do you like Kipling?
    A: I don’t know, I’ve never been kippled.

I love Kipling’s poetry. It is redolent of vigorous masculinity and civilizational confidence . . . which is why it has been relegated to the dustbin of literary history by our pedagogical and opinion-molding overseers (to whom I should like to say, “Fuzzy-Wuzzy this!”).

I grew up reading Rudyard Kipling, a book report on his works enabled me to get my stripes in Scouts.
Now days when the term White Privilege is used, I turn it around to White Man’s burden which is the flip side and is how our civilization was built. Now I admit it is a slightly patronizing term but it has its uses such as when you introduce someone from the third world to good whiskey and marmite on toast.

Kipling’s poem is also derided by progressives so any connection with one of his memes is guaranteed to make heads explode . or at least elevate the progressive to the full extent of their irrationality when semantic mistakes are virtually assured.and hypocrisy laid bare.
