How France Became an Inviting Target of the Jihad

It is the result of a conquest ideology taking the measure of a civilization that no longer values its heritage, no longer regards itself as worthy of defense.

Earlier this year, following the Charlie Hebdo massacre and related terrorist attacks in and around Paris, I wrote Islam and Free Speech, a “Broadside” that is part of the series published by Encounter Books. The following is an excerpt.

How did we get to this historical anomaly in France where, as the estimable scholar Daniel Pipes observes, “a majority population accepts the customs and even the criminality of a poorer and weaker community”? It is the result of a conquest ideology taking the measure of a civilization that no longer values its heritage, no longer regards itself as worthy of defense.

It’s only been 24 hours but I’m pretty sure this will take the prize for the most trite headline you’ll see. No word on if he was clutching a teddy bear.

“Man plays John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ outside site of Paris attack”

    • Xavier

You’d be surprised how often that wretched song is showing up post Fri13. The Guardian ran a French girl’s account of the evening’s events that opened with her purchasing Imagine.

I see it as tacit dhimmitude.

The “natural”, the *healthy* attitude to something like this would be anger – anger prompting action, retaliation, justice. But most French appear incapable of it.

Instead, the reaction is this vague, desultory sadness – not really even sadness since it doesn’t seem poignant enough – but more a melancholy, a passionless societal self-hatred and apathy that the pianist playing “Imagine” encapsulates perfectly.

Nothing screams “weaklings” like “Imagine” or “Kumbaya”.

      • Justin St.Denis

Try “We Are The World”. Or “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” There is a virtue catalog of sappy songs that scream weakness, cowardice, and compromise.

    • Hard Little Machine

Take a look at Rolling Stone magazine. Hipsters and mega bands who happened to be in France or merely thought about being in France have tweeted whiny things assuring everyone they’re ok.

      • Millie_Woods

Any word on the status of the band, Eagles of Death Metal, that was performing at the Bataclan?

    • Justin St.Denis

I have HATED that sing since I first heard it when it was released back in the early 1970s. I was in High School at the time, and found the ludicrous lyrics to be….ludicrous. Time has not mellowed me out in this score. I loathe the song more than ever.

      • UCSPanther

When I first heard “Imagine”, I hated it too. Still do. And I am a millenial…

= The Paris attacks not a struggle between West and Islam , says head of Nato! The whitewash of Islam begins (continues). On French TV channels every effort is made to pass the idea that Muslims are generally nice guys and these few are exceptions, thus making possible the continuation and expansion of the war on the West by Islam.

It works like an infomercial; the hook is in the first paragraph and frequently in the first sentence. If you’ll swallow that, everything that follows seems logical.

    • Millie_Woods

The nice ones only burn your car or rape your daughter.

      • Justin St.Denis

Thank you for pointing out that salient feature to car enthusiasts and feminists on the Left.

And to add to that, the EU still sees no reason to re-examine its immigration policies vis a vis the migrants…even in light of the fact one attacker entered Europe as a migrant

It took less than 48 hours to get back to the same old, same old.

  • Xavier

Excellent article. “Free expression is the gateway to assimilation. Consequently, radical Islam cannot tolerate it.”

    • Alex

Yes, I thought the author summed things up very neatly and clearly. I’ve bookmarked the article to use as Exhibit A to some liberals that I know.

Watched some of the “Paris Special” last night on Radio Canada.
Truly vomit inducing. Paris. Montreal. Toronto.
Mostly young vacuous leftist fashionistas from media and vacuous proletarianistas spending their time mooing to each other when they weren’t laying flowers. Coverage of the male population consisted mostly of clips featuring members of the armed Paris police wandering aimlessly while trying to avoid bumping into each other, i.e. “showing the flag”.
Sharia John’s address to the multitude was the usual.

what the msm media refuse to tell you is that the night club was jewish owned and the band playing often toured Israel !!!!

AFP, RT, Reuters, ITV, Sky News, AP, Fox News are all reporting that a Syrian passport was found either on, or near, the body of one of the suicide bombers in Paris

even Christiane Amanpour , CNN said “might be a little too neat”

Justin Truedope will have Canadians emasculated and overrun with Muslims if he gets his way. He’s using his father’s “Michael Manley in Jamaica is my friend so open the floodgates to Jamaican immigration and the Liberal Party will have more voters” plan…and for those of us who live in the GTA we all know how successful Jamaican immigration has been (think Jane and Finch).

The Toronto Star is already trumpeting the fact that we need to continue with the importation of Syrian “refugees” in light of the France attacks.”world needs to remind itself that the Syrians who are fleeing Bashar Assad’s bombs and the jidahists’ butchery are not a security threat. Already, in the aftermath of the Paris attacks there are signs of a backlash in Europe and elsewhere against the flood of refugees from the region. It would be a tragedy if doors were bolted against desperate refugees and law-abiding Muslims were treated like criminals. In fact, the Islamic State’s victims have been overwhelmingly Muslim themselves. Families fleeing murder and mayhem deserve the world’s empathy and asylum, not rejection.”

Yup in the deluded world of the Liberal Left – Muslims are the victims….
