Russian passenger plane with 224 on board ‘completely destroyed’ after crashing in Egypt’s Sinai desert ‘leaving no survivors’

Egypt search and rescue teams have located a crashed passenger jet carrying more than 220 Russian tourists in a remote area of the Sinai desert.

Egyptian air traffic control lost contact with the airliner shortly after it took off from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to head to Russia.

The Irish-owned aircraft was leased by a Russian airline. It crashed in the Hassana area, south of Arish.

So… did they blame Israel yet?

    • Justin St.Denis

Give them a few hours to line up their Islamic Rageboys and give them their amphetamines, will you! It always takes a bit of prep-time to get these photo ops absolutely perfect.

Failing that they could blame the Ukrainians.

Without knowing any more than what I see here it’s pretty easy to guess what the cause was. But like British tourists who get murdered in Tunesia, what the hell were they thinking?

At this point we can’t believe anything. When the media smells blood they will say anything to stoke viewer interest and ratings.

Here’s a live flight map. Hasna, the crash site, is located in the center of the North Sinai Governorate and the point of origin, Sharm el-Sheikh, is near the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula.,33.38/9

For the moment I,ll stick with the view the crash resulted from mechanical failure. Before crashing the pilots had asked for an emergency landing site.
We’ll find out soon enough, I guess.

Link to story with live updates.

About 150 bodies, including burnt corpses, were found in a 3 mile radius from the crashed aircraft.

Initial examinations shows the Russian plane crashed in Egypt’s Sinai
due to a technical fault, according to north Sinai security sources.

    • tom_billesley

Three mile radius? To me that sounds too wide a debris field for an intact aircraft hitting the ground.

As Exile1981 noted, ISIS has claimed responsibility.

A militant group affiliated to Islamic State in Egypt, Sinai Province, said in a statement it had brought down the plane “in response to Russian airstrikes that killed hundreds of Muslims on Syrian land”, but Russia’s Transport Minister told Interfax news agency the claim “can’t be considered accurate”.

There’s a video available at the Mirror link above showing a burning jet falling. Both black boxes have been located and we should have some definitive answers soon.

Since the accident occurred at cruising altitude, a mechanical failure causing explosive decompression seems most likely.
    Or a bomb on board.
Or an Egyptian Army antiaircraft facility with rogue islamist fanatics in control..

    I don’t trust DEBKA.

  • k1962

We all know who did this, the religion of peace of course.

    • k1962

It’s probably payback for Russia entering the Syrian conflict. Some Sunni group of peaceniks is pissed.

  • Exile1981

    Isis just claimed responsibility.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

They claim responsibility for a stubbed toe.

      • Exile1981

I didn’t say they did it, just that they claim they did it
