US studentcrats think First Amendment outdated

That, at least, is the result of a survey recently completed:

To put some numbers behind that perception, The William F. Buckley Jr. Program at Yale recently commissioned a survey from McLaughlin & Associates about attitudes towards free speech on campus. Some 800 students at a variety of colleges across the country were surveyed. The results, though not surprising, are nevertheless alarming. By a margin of 51 percent to 36 percent, students favor their school having speech codes to regulate speech for students and faculty. Sixty-three percent favor requiring professors to employ “trigger warnings” to alert students to material that might be discomfiting. One-third of the students polled could not identify the First Amendment as the part of the Constitution that dealt with free speech. Thirty-five percent said that the First Amendment does not protect “hate speech,” while 30 percent of self-identified liberal students say the First Amendment is outdated.

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Of course, when the studentcrats rule, it may not be necessary to make a “law respecting”; lawfare can slowly empty each term of all significance.

One driver of the problem is that the bloated administrations of the Us need the baby fascists’ tuition debt.

If you ever needed a sign that our universities have utterly failed their most basic mission, then here you go!
Now I know why Mao executed all of those teachers durring his cultural revolution.

    • Hard Little Machine

Our teachers are the one’s Mao used for the executions.

    • Clausewitz

Actually he executed the teachers during the cultural revolution because most of them were still Confucius leaning traditionalists. The Cultural Revolution was nothing more than Mao killing off any opposition to his Communist Doctrine since some of the Politburo wanted more access to the west in order to take China out of the economic malaise it was in.

Someone is in charge of accrediting universities.
Take control of that and you can change things.
Engineers are required to take many fluff courses they do not need.
I have had more arguments with left leaning engineers than I ever thought I would after school.
Everyone is to the left of me and it drives me crazy.

  • I keep saying this: air-lift these people to North Korea and leave them there.

I loved university – undergrad, grad, law – and part of what I loved was the free exchange of ideas. People who were out and out racists were destroyed in class. So we’re lots of lefties and feminists. It was sport.

My elder son is in university now and is getting tone policed and told there are some things which even to say is “inappropriate”. My younger sons are unlikely to go simply because there is so much to learn without the PC BS. We’ll see.

End of the day the value of a uni degree is declining fast.
