Russian cruise missiles fired at Syria ‘hit Iran’ as US warns Moscow it will suffer casualties

Four cruise missiles fired at Syria from a Russian ship in the Caspian Sea on Wednesday have crashed in Iran, US officials said on Thursday.

Russia has been firing cruise missiles over Iran into Syria in attacks on rebels fighting Bashar al-Assad for the past two days. US government sources said four of those launched on Wednesday had landed in Iran, though it was not clear exactly where or if there had been any casualties.

Moscow denied the claims. “In contrast to CNN we do not talk with reference to anonymous sources,” Major General Igor Konashenkov, a Russian defence ministry spokesman told Interfax. “We show the launch of our rockets and the targets they struck.

Yeah, that Russian military hardware is just top notch!

  • Clink9

I bet the guys at Three C P One are all over this news.

  • David

It would be nice if they accidentally hit some nuclear facilities.

  • Norman_In_New_York

Iran is quite far to the east of Syria. Something tells me that their hardware may need some fine tuning.

Just where in the Caspian Sea are the Russian warships? If just off their own shore, their missiles wouldn’t need to go anywhere near Iran. Am wondering if these “accidents” are perhaps a shot across Iran’s bow, so to speak.

      • Minicapt

Firing from the south end of the Caspian, the missiles would cross north-west Iran, then Iraq, before striking Syria. Dropping a missile on Iran would suggest severe problems with the propulsion system.

        • Frances

That’s why I’m wondering just how far their warships are.

    • Canadian

      Or not.

  • WalterBannon

next time they should be armed with nukes, and I don’t care which muslim country they land on, as long as a lot of Muslims get blown up.

  • mauser 98

or they landed intact and Iran can copy them?

  • Maurixio Garciasanchez

Waw too many people are dreaming in here , the next thing over ere I will read that Russia don’t even exist .

  • Hard Little Machine

Probably intentional to kill Azeris and Kurds.

  • Cat-astrophe

This is a perfect way to get everybody to forget about someone else bombing a hospital.
There is no way of knowing if this happened or not or if it was intentional or not.
Iran hasn’t complained yet, have they?

  • Canadian

Anything they hit outside of Israel is ok to me.

‘“In contrast to CNN we do not talk with reference to anonymous sources”

The Russian defence ministry spokesman simultaneously denied the story annnnd gave reference to CNN’s waning credibility.

    Well played, komrade!

I would be more prone to believe Russia than anything coming out of the American government, military and most news organizations. Look how well American interference has worked out in other Middle east regions. Netanyahu should maybe talk nicely to Putin to get an ally because Buckwheat and Lurch are doing everything in their power to assist those that want to destroy Israel.

  • Blacksmith

This is weird, yesterday there was a story about missiles landing short in IRAQ, is this another one, or just a typo in the headlines?
