Do civilians with guns ever stop mass shootings?

Backers of laws that let pretty much all law-abiding people carry concealed guns in public places often argue that these laws will sometimes enable people to stop mass shootings. Opponents occasionally ask: If that’s so, what examples can one give of civilians armed with guns stopping such shootings? Sometimes, I hear people asking if even one such example can be found, or saying that they haven’t heard of even one such example.

A while back I posted about a few examples, but since then there have been some more, so I thought I’d note them.

Good idea a laser gun could be safer , just in case of self defense or to defend an innocent victim .

    • I would hire her.

Hu cool she looks great 0 )

      • Clausewitz

That grip style is actually useless in a fire fight. I’ve taught my wife and kids much better gun control. Two hand grip, centre of mass, and head shot when they’re down. Never fire into a crowd, and always be situationally aware.

        • Canadian

          This grip is for movies.

          • Clausewitz

            Exactly, all style no substance.

She’s got a nice pair of triggers.

“Sometimes, I hear people asking if even one such example can be found,
or saying that they haven’t heard of even one such example.”

It’s almost as if there were a deliberate effort by the media to not report such events…

    • BillyHW

They will never report any positive use of guns, but will report each and every negative use of guns like it’s the end of the world.

  • Canadian

What the hell, since most mass shootings happen in “gun-free areas”, and rarely at shooting ranges.

  • ntt1

how about a total denial of all publicity regarding shooters just give a number instead of a name or just call him dumb fuck number….whatever. destroy the publicity surrounding shootings as this seems to be a major motivator.

    • pike bishop

IMO there is too much secrecy around LE & court issues already.
For instance, I have not heard who supplied the War Memorial shooter with his firearm and ammo.

      • ntt1

The question of gun supply and who is responsible should indeed be trumpeted loudly and repeatedly unfortunately many guns used
Are legal possessions .what I am talking about is the publicity seeking killer. Limit discription to the name of the
Death cult only ,use a bland euphemism for
        The killers name
Place the blame squarely in order to inform citizens of. The grave danger of
        Importing a hate filled ideology

        • pike bishop

The courts will start with denying the public the names of mass shooters and then move on to rapists, wife beaters, bank robbers, etc. Child molesters already get their names hidden to protect the victims. An open society must have a free press. I really dislike it when the police and courts play coy with the public with non-answers at press conferences and publication bans.

          • ntt1

Yet under our existing laws a man can be ruined with false rape allegations with little or no repercussions to the woman

  • Pavelina

You can’t miss with a flamethrower.

  • Xavier

If most mass killings are not stopped by armed civilians, isn’t that proof there should be more people with concealed firearms?

  • angrymike

The fact is, ppl won’t even try mass shootings if there MIGHT be someone there with a gun, the simple knowledge of a might be hero stops them in their tracks……
An armed society is a polite society…….

  • tom_billesley

Do civilians without guns ever stop mass shootings?
René Jalbert is the only one I can think of.
