Video: Why a Former NDPer is Voting Conservative

I’m voting conservative because our provincial healthcare systems have become dangerous for the elderly. The Progressive Conservatives are the only politicians openly addressing this issue.

I know young Canadians think our universal healthcare is great (and frequently, and erroneously, think it is free). You may think so too, but ask yourself, when was the last time you accompanied an older relative to the hospital or a doctor’s appointment? What do you really know about how the vulnerable–the elderly and disabled–are treated in our nation’s healthcare systems?

    Better late than never.

    • This is true.

I don’t knock that part, especially since I recall with some shame how when university age I bought into the rubbish. I recall accepting that the Soviet Union was a great accomplishment due to many professors and the whole environment of university. Once I had to enter the real world, work, pay taxes, and become responsible for myself, it didn’t take me too long to see the light. While I do not seek to avoid my own personal blame, I still feel anger at those who lied to me and misled me.

Healthcare in Canada works a lot like “school care”. Both systems have wonderful and terrible examples of what happens to patients and pupils plus a great mushy average area where the results are problematic on a case by case basis. Never make the assumption that chronic care health professionals will always spot problems long before a visiting friend or relative, especially when seniors are involved. Maybe yes. Maybe no.

My grandfather was Labour in Scotland. My da (GRHS) was a dipper the whole time here in Canada since ’66 until he passed in 2001. When I thought it was the party of the farmer, and guys who wore steel toe boots and blue shirts to work… I use to live in Parkdale and got active in Cheri DiNovo’s campaign (nice woman btw face-to-face, at least to me anyway), met Jack Layton quickly (thought Ewwww!) Iggy dropped in from Harvard as the great pretender…. been a conservative/libertarian ever since. Still by-in-large, a Catholic.

Good video. What is interesting is the video is sponsored by a group supporting the medically-ill aged. And to be frank I have never seen our corporate media interview an advocate in this area. As this woman states, the media cartel are not interested in the welfare of the elderly. This is what makes this video an eye-opener.

The media cartel are not interested in this issue yet because they are baby boomers.
It’s about to change because soon they are going to be tapped to go on carousel.

An excellent video. Yup, there are a few narcisisitic healthcare professionals. One student nurse (single mother) believed all her education should be paid by the state. It was all about her…I wouldn’t be surprised if she places a DNR on my chart some day.
