The star pupil who scored zero in all her exams

Thousands rallied behind a top-ranked student who not only failed her exams but was given the lowest marks possible in a potential case of injustice and corruption.

Her expectations were high – and rightfully so. Mariam Malak had achieved nearly perfect marks in previous years, results which made her one of Egypt’s top performing high school students. When final exam marks were announced, she eagerly scanned the list top scores, but to her surprise, her name was not on it. Still, she was still confident she’d done enough to get into a medical school – until she saw her results, and fainted.

“I was completely shocked,” Malak told BBC Trending. “I couldn’t hear anyone, I couldn’t speak. I thought how can that happen? How can I get zero?”

I can’t wait for all of this Islamic style corruption to wash ashore in Europe and here.
    So, what was the deal?
She pissed off the wrong educational official?
Her family from the wrong tribe?
The bribe amount wasn’t high enough?

    • She’s Christian.

      • Petrilla

She is a Christian, was the other girl as well? Let them take the exams again and I’ll bet they would come through with flying colours, as they would have done without the corruption.

An anecote: as a PhD student at Queen’s, I got to teach on first-year course. Some other students got to teach similar courses. We all got separate offices, mostly to convey the false impression we were professors, which we weren’t. And one day I was in my office working, when I heard a soft thud in the hallway, and when I went out to see what happened, some cute 18-year-old girl had fainted after seeing that she ot a zero on her mid-term.

As a fellow-student fanned the girl, propped up as she was sitting backfirst against the wall, I mildly suggested to the student-teacher that he should give the girl “10%” instead of a zero, just to help her morale. I was a liberal back in 1983.

        Nothing wrong with that.
I would have done the same.
That difference isn’t going to make any real difference.

    • Maggat

She didn’t “wash” sufficiently for her exams. IE bribe the correct people or worse flat out refused to bribe the correct people.

Don’t have to wait, hang around Chinese and East Indians for awhile.

Hell, ask any student who goes to school with them about their cheating.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

Yes, the cheating of Chinese and E. Indian students is rather legendary.

The Foreign Affairs Minister should call up Fahmy’s lawyer and suggest she call back in three years time.

What a wasteland of corruption and shit. The middle east. SHIT.

    • BillyHW

Actually pretty much every country except for “Western” nations (not counting Latinos here, but including Australia/New Zealand) and Japan/South Korea/Taiwan.

  • David

A friend of mine says, photo copy everything. Seems to go doubly here.

  • Petey the First

And we’re bringing this corruption into our country. I’ve personally seen what standard Chinese corruption does to a company once the diversity index slips over 20%. The ME’ers will be no different.
