“They’re not taxpayers’ dollars…”

This was actually said:

Though many First Nations bands have not published their finances because of the long and complicated process, others, such as Dene National Chief Bill Erasmus, say they shouldn’t have to release the information to the general public.

“The monies that we’re talking about are not public funds, they’re not taxpayers’ dollars,” Erasmus said.

Worse yet they are not even accountable to their own band members. They can steal, pillage as much as they like from their own communities and they wouldn’t even know what happen. http://globalnews.ca/news/2161765/theresa-spence-resigns-as-chief-of-attawapiskat-looks-for-higher-office/

Of course, they are “not public funds, …not taxpayers’ dollars” they are HIS dollars, all of them, and HE is entitled to a LOT more of HIS dollars.

    • These dollars grow on a magical money-growing tree…..

      • Clausewitz

Maybe that’s why these idiots want the shiny pony to be PM, because we all know he farts perfume and magical money.

    Send them back to Siberia.

  • I am sick and tired of those lazy and whiny Indians who think that they can guilt us into giving them even more money. The Indian Act should be abolished.

    • Clausewitz

Abolish the Indian Act, then cut them lose to either join the 21st century or fade away into historical obscurity.

      • Alain

Abolishing the Indian Act would cut them loose from the public teat and make them equal citizens of Canada. Yes, equal, not superior nor inferior, which is why the professional Indians fight tooth and nail to keep the Indian Act, even though such an Act in the 21st century is a disgrace.

It’s funny that when you put cold hard cash on the table, everyone has a story of abuse.

To be fair, there is a possibility he misspoke or part of the whole conversation is missing and therefor misleading. From what I understand the rules state they must report income from all sources, so they are being forced to reveal income from stuff that isn’t Canadian taxpayer dollars. That may be what he is talking about.
There is the possibility he is talking about the federal transfers, but the article isn’t clear. Either way, so long as they receive money from the feds, they should have to make their finances public.

    • Clear Thinker

You mean like the 600,000 dollar pay off from a land deal that no one else knew about?

    • lolwut?

It’s band money regardless.. They are not allowing band members to see what is coming in and where it is going.

In other news, the dirt on Ashley Burnham (Mrs Universe 2015) associations is starting to trickle out.

Seems her Father in-law is involved in shady business and issues with employees

Looks like she went digging and struck gold…..

She’s also purged a few photos of her with rez thug types.

Her reservation has lots of money but the people there live in squalor.
wanna take bets on whether she addresses that issue… I’m betting NO
because she likely has ties to shady guys in the leadership.

I managed to get this by the CBC censor machine only by posting as a reply to another comment. It was disallowed as a main thread starter. Beating the Ceeb is becoming my new hobby.
“These millionaire chiefs will do and say anything to protect their secretive nepotistic handling of – yes – our taxpayers’ dollars. Arrogance beyond belief. The only thing they will understand is when their own pocketbook is affected by withheld monies. Until that happens they will obfuscate, deflect and resist all attempts at accountability. The feds need to stick to their guns here. The ordinary impoverished voiceless reserve family will probably end up thanking them down the line.”
