Iceland Has Offered to House Syrian Refugees

I guess you know what you’re doing, Iceland:

In the wake of one the greatest challenges Europe is facing with millions of Syrians fleeing war and persecution, one country is taking matters into their own hands.

Thousands in Iceland responded on Facebook saying they’ll welcome Syrians into their own homes after their government capped refugee numbers at 50, The Independent reports.

On Sunday, Icelandic author, Bryndis Bjorgvinsdottir set up the Facebook group with an open letter to pressure the government to increase its intake of refugees.

By Tuesday morning, more than 11,000 families have offered their homes, food and clothes to the refugees, in a country with a population of around 330,000 inhabitants, The Independent reports.

Does Iceland have halal food? Some refugees are refusing to eat unless it is provided.

    • Kathy Prendergast

So let them starve; that would solve the problem.

    • Kathy Prendergast

Better yet, make them all wear hot, itchy wool Icelandic sweaters, against their bare skin. That will acculturate them like nothing else.

So let them stave…that would solve a lot of problems.

Or better yet, give them all a hot, bulky, itchy, gaudily-coloured Icelandic wool sweater on arrival and make them wear it at all times, whatever the weather. That would acculturate them in no time.

Ramadan in the Icelandic summer – only 21 hours of daylight to fast.

        • Kathy Prendergast

That would definitely be interesting…how much food, drink, and sex can people gorge on in 3 hours?

Oh this should be fun to watch. Please keep us updated 😀

The women voters of Iceland have spoken: “Please rape us.”

“[More] … than 11,000 families have offered their homes, food and clothes to the refugees ….”

Why don’t they just trade places with these poor, disadvantaged refugees, and go live in Syria? Sort of like a student exchange program, only permanently. They’re giving their country away anyway; might as well just speed the process along.

Ah, nice teacher lady wants a pet Syrian to raise as her very own! It’s pitiful to read of her desire to teach this kid all about Iceland. This kid will be interested for about five minutes, until the rest of his refugee community says his culture is being insulted and degraded. Then all Icelandic influence will stop and he’ll demand his own sharia compliant living quarters.
And Icelandic authorities will agree and give her a stern lecture and possibly a fine.

      Nailed it!

      • Shebel

        Yup !

Not to be supercynical, but Icelanders used to forego a lot of strenuous employment in their own fishplants, etc, so that foreign students and others traveling around the world on the cheap (Aussies esp) could save up the cash to bridge the Atlantic either way in exchange for a lot of sweat. Nor were the natives noted for being that friendly.

  • Shebel

I could be wrong- but if you want to become a Citizen of Iceland then you must have an Icelandic name.
Looks like these they don’t intend to Keep them.

  • Dana Garcia

What a waste of being an island nation. Iceland is way out there in the north Atlantic, where no swimmers can reach, yet they are throwing that excellent geography away to welcome some choppers.

    • Shebel

They know naught what they do.

  • kkruger71

Clearly insane, but when your biggest export is Bjork, I don’t know what I’d expect.

    • Canadian

Did you have to mention her?

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Oi, The Sugarcubes were an awesome band.

And Alex Borstein does the best Bjork impression ever.

      • kkruger71

Good band or not, she is clearly insane.

Plus I’m curious to see how badly their welfare system will be able to be abused by these refugees. I read before that Bjork actually had a kid just so she could go on welfare and use the benefits to get her teeth fixed. Wonder how generous the system is there now.

  • Shebel

    I don’t believe the headline.
Iceland is going to take in 11000 of these aggressive animals ?
Icelanders are Proud and Not Suicidal like the rest of us.

    • Destroyer-Drone

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. A sizeable amount of Icelanders believe elves actually exist, kid you not. Iceland is an insular lunatic asylum.

  • Millie_Woods

Awww, that’s so thoughtful of them. They should rename the island Barneyville or Niceland.

All I can say is ‘better them than us.’

  • Canadian

So, Iceland is gonna contest Sweden`s title as rape capital of the world?
    Why are they stupid?

  • lolwut?

    *Grabs popcorn*

  • Drunk_by_Noon

    This is very sad.
The Icelandic people have been brainwashed into lining up for the Kool-Aid laced with cyanide while being told that they are getting a health drink.
They really do, although naively so, believe that they are helping humanity.
For that mistake they will be punished mightily.

  • Destroyer-Drone

“You hurt yourself only when you give away what is your own. There is nothing so self-defeating as generosity: in the act of practising it, you lose the ability to do so, and you become either poor or despised or, seeking to escape poverty, rapacious and hated.”

-Niccolò Machiavelli; Il Principe, Chapt. XVI: Generosity and parsimony.

For various reasons, about once a year I’m compelled to point out that Iceland is a nation of ~400,000.

  • Hard Little Machine

Hopefully now 200,000 Muslims will flood in.
