Margaret Atwood is an irrelevant attention hound, not a free speech martyr #elxn42

Did you know that almost 60% of Margaret Atwood’s nearly 900,000 Twitter followers are fake? Can you even remember the last time one of her novels was a bestseller?

Most of the Canadian activists are at their heart about look – at – me, look – at – me. David Suzuki, Naomi Klein, Cory Doctorow. It just goes on.

In my gut I know I couldn’t stand to be around any of them.

    • Justin St.Denis

      Nor could I.

  • Margaret who?

Most under-50s share your confusion. Don’t worry about it. It’s really not important.

Atwood is a writer, and not a very good one. Her books can’t be named because they are simply unmemorable. THE HANDMAID’S TALE would hardly be nearly as well known if it hadn’t been turned into a (very dull) Hollywood movie. Atwood enjoys luck, not talent. Time will prove me right in this one.

Now, Robertson Davies is a whole different story………

And Alice Munro. I love her stories.

And Mavis Gallant, whom I had the honour of sitting beside on a Paris-to-Toronto flight about a decade before her death. Truly a genius of the short story. Gallant is incomparable.

Thanks! I will definitely check out her work.

Atwood is world famous…south of Bloor St. to the lake

Fake Twitter followers! That’s hilarious! I hadn’t even considered that!
For Pete’s sake, how friggin needy do you have to be to do something like that?

    ………Barry & Hill also

Barack Obama is political king of the fake Twitter followers, with more than 19.5 million online fans who don’t really exist

Hillary Rodham Clinton, has been exposed
for having more than 2 million fake followers on Twitter or her
followers never Tweet. And it gets worse, she’s buying fake Facebook

I have never, in my entire life, ever bought an Atwood book or even read one from cover to cover.

I’d rather watch the grass grow.

    • Justin St.Denis

Watching grass grow is THRILLING compared to reading an Atwood novel published after 1980.

  • BillyHW

    Atwood is a geriatric cunt.

Graeme Gibson should know. I believe they still cohabit. Or maybe he’s dead. Who knows? Even fewer care…

  • Ed

I can see why she’d be scandalized that anyone would spend money on their hair. She clearly doesn’t.

Great piece by Ezra, attacking the left-wing political/arts/media establishment, and their laughably hypocrisy. I particularly like Ezra’s depiction of turncoat Jonathan Kay in all of this — where his “Walrus” publication posting Atwood’s mindless rant, and retelling of Kay’s ghostwriting Trudeau’s autobiography. Hilarious.
