Having gone through TWO SAP implementations during my years in industry I can say with 100% certainty that if we beheaded anyone who even suggested switching a computer system to SAP the world would be a much better place.
We always joke that SAP is an obscenity or that it’s a german acronym for “screw the west”.
Also every business who switches finds out that the size of the accounting department goes way up because it is so people intensive you need way more people. Even if you use modules for other business functions other than accounting you’ll have the same problem.
I could go on and on about SAP but I’ll stop here.

    • I have seen it, – a bloated unmitigated disaster.

I sat in on one meeting for the second implementation (different company) as an “affected stakeholder” and they explained that SAP would save money and only cost 3-4 million to implement. I laughed and suggested they budget 20 million as SAP will charge you for every minor change and every second of time they are helping you plus it never goes smoothly.
I still do work for them, last I heard it was 18 million to get SAP up and running (with tons of glitches still) and the number of IT and accounting hires to run the software had long ago eaten up any savings. They have 3 times as many IT people in the SAP service department vs the old software help desk and network IT departments had combined.
