Is The U.S. Getting Ready To Kick Pollard Loose after 30-Years?

Johnathan Pollard

It looks like the Obama Administration is getting ready to throw Israel a 30-year-old bone in the form of one Jonathan Pollard in exchange for them shutting up on his worthless Iranian nuclear deal.

What I don’t get is why this news isn’t burning up the Internet already, especially considering the nature of his spying, much of which is still classified, mostly because of how damaging it was to both U.S. interests and to NATO. Had we gone to war with the Soviets before Jonathan Pollard was discovered, we would have lost, and lost big, and Israel and the Soviets knew it.

That’s why he was so valuable to both of those states. Russia received a treasure trove of information on all manner of things while Israel used that information as Pollard’s nation-state-handler was able to trade that information to procure the release of more Jews from the Soviet union. Previous and subsequent to this “affair” the Soviets were simply selling refusnik Jews passage to Israel in exchange for hard currency. With Pollard, Israel discovered a much more cost effective way of manipulating the situation.

Today, the common narrative in many pro-Israeli circles is that Pollard was acting as an ethically conscious Jew in the service of Israel in the sharing of information that the selfish Americans were refusing to share with Israel. I have a difficult time believing this at all. A much more ridiculous claim is that Pollard was “an American Dreyfus”.

The Pollard that is presented today is much different than the Pollard of 1985. As some kind of savior of the Jewish state, he sure had a funny way of showing it as he approached the Chinese and Soviets FIRST, and not Israel. In fact, Israel was way down on his list, somewhere AFTER Pakistan and Australia. Yes, Australia! However, all of the prospective countries turned Pollard down believing he was a clumsy plant. It was only the very clever Mossad realized just what he had available and that he was indeed not a “plant” at all that he was finally put on the payroll.

The rest they say is espionage history, and a reminder to the rest of us that nation states only have “interests” and not real friendships, as we would know them.

A good book on the subject is “Capturing Jonathan Pollard: How One of the Most Notorious Spies in American History Was Brought to Justice” and is available at both Amazon U.S. and Amazon.CA.

Remember to use the Amazon click-throughs on the side if you buy! It helps offset the cost of running this site.

  • Maybe Obama will. But he’s petulant enough to keep him back for some perceived slight.

  • DVult

Maybe Obambi could trade him for a couple of hundred palestinian terrorists who could then be dispersed throughout the country.

  • Dana Garcia

Spies should be shot, or at least some of them. But the weakened nation state gets little respect these days from global sophisticates like Obasma.

I doubt if Obama can buy Israel’s silence on Iran by turning loose an aging spy who is of no further use to them. Although I am not privy to the discussions between the Secretary of Defense and Israel’s defense minister, I would think that having been deprived by Obama of an ounce of prevention against Iran, Israel would demand a pound of cure.

  • Hard Little Machine

No. It will never happen. He’d have a better shot at being freed if he blew up some people at the Boston marathon.

  • I very much doubt this negative story about Jonathan Pollard – I would certainly not believe it on some guy’s say-so whose motives are unknown.

As for Pollard getting released by Obama, we’ve heard similar rumors before and they turned out wrong. Pollard is Jewish and Obama hates Jews.
