        Many Spits had break away wooden props to negate greater crash damage to the engine and air frame that metal props could cause during belly landings. Looks like this replica might have been similarly equipped.

    Those elliptical wings are great for more than just tight turns in a horizontal battle. They make a great platform for belly landings as well.
