$20 billlion oil sands project postponed thanks to Alberta’s NDP government

Teck Resources has shut down a $20 billion oil sands project in Alberta. Low oil prices and rising labour costs didn’t help, but it’s obvious the final straw was the new NDP government.

The NDP commies must be partying really hard as we speak!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y9hIjH_7do

    • Notley and Wynne are good news for Harper.

      • Helios Megistos

Harpy is just horrible on immigration; he also has not reduced the size of government thus he is no conservative but just another tax-and-spend spineless liberal!

        • Alain

You are correct on both those issues and I share the same sentiments. However make no mistake that either the NDP or Liberals would make those issues far worse along with a lot more. I am not willing to write the PM off as a total non conservative, but I do not agree with his incrementalist approach to everything, since no matter what there is not enough time on his side to finish the job. I am convinced that any attempt by conservatives to win over the left is a lost and wasted cause. It is like expecting the insane to suddenly become sane.

Harper in his earlier days – before becoming PM – was quite Libertarian. Libertarians have a problem with immigration restriction – they tend to be open borders types. That would be one of the key differences with conservatives.

          • Alain

In general I have no beef with libertarians. I cannot see how a true libertarian would support open borders in a welfare state. I can understand supporting open borders even though I do not, but supporting them in a welfare state is insane.

It also seems to me that a true libertarian would have scrapped the Liberals Firearms Act and replaced it with something that would have provided protection for personal property rights and personal freedom while dealing harshly with criminals instead of law-abiding citizens. Furthermore privatising the CBC would be both a libertarian and a conservative move. Nor to my knowledge do libertarians support big government or corporate socialism (government in bed with big business). So even as a libertarian he falls short.

          • Brett_McS

Libertarians would be against the welfare state, but then favour open borders once the welfare state is demolished. The question is then what does the Libertarian government do about communities within the state who close themselves off to free immigrantion?

  • Alain

This is only a surprise to the brain-dead as far as I am concerned. I should also add that these socialists haven’t even got warmed up yet, so look forward to much, much more.

But they can have great pride parades like Toronto now. And we can give them great advice on wind turbines.

The American are about to replace their village idiot just as we are beginning to elect them.

    • Alain

Hopefully that will be the case for the Americans.

One has to wonder with the downturn in the economy why on earth is the federal government still allowing businesses to bring in foreign workers by the thousands especially in Alberta?

    • barryjr

Won’t matter soon, the dippers will drive all businesses out of Alberta

  • Dogandcat

Who is surprised???? The NDP hates prosperity and hates free enterprise. In their ideology close down everything for the common good……..communism has never been a sucess but lets try again. I’m just worried about Quebec. How will they get their transfer payments now with Alberta NDP??? Actually……that’s good.

    • HalcyonDaze

I was thinking the same thing. Apparently Ontario and Alberta have now commenced a race to the bottom of the fiscal and in Ontario’s case moral barrel.

I guess that answers the question on if I got the contract with them for a bunch of work.

Buddy of mine who was my Best Man is the CEO of an oil exploration company. They just finished their move to Saskatchewan last week. The share holders are exceedingly happy.
