Who is Laura Bassett? Support floods in for defender after injury-time own goal knocks England out of World Cup

    poor girl…

“Live Your Goals”. Shouldn’t that be “Live Your Own Goals”?

  • David Murrell

BCFers will disagree with me perhaps. But I agree with the British outpouring of support for the defensive player in question. Own goals are fairly common in soccer. And people watching the game in comfort should dump on a player would makes an own goal, especially one who was playing the game — running up and down the field for an hour and a half. It is a game; it is sport and these things happen.

And besides Laura Basset is a good looker.

Clearly you haven’t watched much MLS. Water boarding on astroturf.

Why would I watch MLS when I’ve got the NHL, CFL, NFL, MLB and to a much lesser extent, the NBA to watch?
        Soccer’s got a problem.
        A goal.
Whether accidental or legit, is too easy to defend for the rest of ninety minutes.
Essentially rendering the game to a crapshoot.

  • andycanuck

Sure. She couldn’t’ have done that in the quarter-finals game against Canada. Noooo. B1tch!!!

Poor kid. It’s probably of little comfort, but she’s got nothing on
weepy John Boehner, or John (Benedict Arnold) Roberts, who have made a
career of deliberately betraying their teem.

    When the consequences
are clear, immediate, and everyone is invested in the outcome, success
or failure aren’t likely to be missed. Too bad that when it’s REALLY
important, no one is paying attention.

  • What Victorian attitudes people still possess. She cost her team the chance to advance. Had she been a man, she would have to flee the country.

I think you’re mistaking England with South America.
