Saudi government funding private Islamic schools in Canada, documents show

The Saudi government is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to help finance the expansion of private Islamic schools in Canada, according to newly leaked documents that shine a light on how foreign states are helping finance a growing demand for religious education.

The documents, involving cables between diplomats at the Saudi embassy in Ottawa and government officials in Riyadh, contain conversations from 2012 and 2013 about a $211,000 donation to a school in Ottawa and $134,000 to a school in Mississauga.

But you read that here FIRST

Saudi money to MAC

Not a problem for the left. As long as they’re not Christian schools.
    That would be horrific!

    • You bet. The Left didn’t bat an eye about Sharia law gender segregation in the TDSB.

  • Let’s cut the b@$#@rds off.

What the Hell is wrong with Canada? Are we that nice or are we just plain stupid?

    • Norman_In_New_York

The Saudis do this everywhere they are permitted to inject their dirty money. I don’t know of any government that has put a stop to this. Canada is in good company.

“Saudi government funding private Islamic schools in Canada, documents show”

    And that surprises us, how?

“The power of the extremist Wahhabi form of Islam in the United States
was created with generous Saudi financing of American Muslim communities
    over the past few decades.”

    They do that everywhere.

  • David Murrell

Good investigative piece (for once) by the Globe and Mail.

I checked the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) records covering submissions by the Ottawa Islamic School for the periods 2010 to 2013 state that they received NO foreign money outside of Canada. So either the Globe is completely wrong when they say the school received $231,000 for else the school is fraudulently stating that they received no outside money (the latters is far more likely). I will be writing an official complaint to the CRA on this discrepancy this morning.

The Olive Grove School does not have official charity status, but they do accept non-tax receiptable donations from parents of children attending the school. So Saudi Arabia could have donated the $134,000 to this school directly. More likely they donated money to the Muslim umbrella group above this school, the Muslim Association of Canada. CRA records show that the MRA received about $6 1/2-million in overseas money from 2010 to 2014. The last two years of CRA break down this source into “tax receiptable” and “non-tax receiptable transfers from governments”, and the MAC data says that nearly all of the transfers were from governments. In the 2013/14 fiscal year, the MAC received about $2-million from overseas sources. So note that the Muslim Association of Canada gets a huge amount of money from this latter source.

    • David Murrell

I made a mistake in the above post. In fact, the Ottawa Islamic school received the following amounts from foreign sources:
      fiscal year 2014: $218.871
      fiscal year 2014: $762,828
      fiscal year 2011: $13,823
So I will not be writing a formal complaint to the CRA. But note that the Ottawa Islamic School received over $1-million from foreign sources, not the $211,00 mentioned in the Globe article.

And the Saudis were part of financing the world trade center terror destruction too.

    • Alain

They also provided and provide a lot of funding for several American politicians.

  • cmh

and soon (as is in the US) Islamic doctrine will fully permeate into our public schools and universities as well. Harper’s party is not acting against this

    • just a thought

Of course not. That would be politically difficult.

What distinguishes “Liberals” and “Conservatives” of today is that the Libs rush to advocate and initiate destructive policies, while Cons usually support (at least publicly) what’s constructive, but only if it is easy to do, though never if it entails any actual risk.

  • Not_Crazy

next thing you know they will receive funding for shrile law in canada.
