I read all 96 comments on the NYT article and the readers are furious. Some threatened to cancel their subscriptions.

Favourable comments (criticizing Catholics in general) were about a few percent.

I “liked” all the comments that were critical. Over and over, the words about hurting “religious sensibilities” released by their executive editor over Charlie Hebdo were quoted in the angry comments.

Good to see that even their leftist readers found it too much.

    • It was a stupid response by an ignorant bigot.

      • Frau Katze

It comes down to effectively saying, “Muslims go crazy, riot, kill people but Catholics don’t.”

What kind of message is that? Violence works.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

          Well, it does.

            They better be careful.
            I work, too.
One day enough is going to be enough.
And I won’t care about anything else anymore.

            First we must make lists.

Although aligned with the enemy, they are not, I believe, our real enemy.
If all of them blinked out of existence tomorrow, would we know it?
            I wouldn’t.

No, I am talking the activist SJWs, the media, much of academia, and huge swaths of the private corporate sector.
Those are the real instruments of power that have been coopted against us.
They are all cowards, and so they must be made fearful.

Welcome back to the heat wave Frau.

It’s been many years since I bought the Times even though I used to have fun doing the crossword puzzles in the Sunday magazine.

    You know…lol

The Times jumped the proverbial shark a decade ago.

The subtext here – incorrectly – is that Islam is a religion of brown people and to offend it is somehow racist, Catholicism, on the other hand, is a white religion so anything goes. The fact that at least a couple of the 1.1 billion Catholics are not white will not register at the Times. Because, well, Muslims.

Oh, and Muslims, unlike Catholics, tend to blow shit up when they are “offended”.

    • What a disgusting rag.

    • Except for all of the Asians who are Catholic.

But why upset the ideological apple-cart?

      • Rosenmops

Not to mention a hell of a lot of people in South America and Africa. But never mind that. It started out white, or something like that, and that is all that matters.

        • It started out Jewish.

Don’t bring that up or the left will really blow their stack!

    • John

Actually the vast majority of Christians these days are non-white. If The Times still views Christianity as a ‘white’ religiuon, they’re doubly full of it.

  • If Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI issued a fatwa against such depictions, no one would have seen the offending image. THAT says everything.

A Merry Canada Day to all y’all.

God gave us a sense of humour. In fact some philosopher or other claimed that risibility was our defining characteristic. This damn thing is so pathetic that it did manage to make me laugh and I don’t really see how it caused any harm. Eggs Benedict on the other hand was good but where are the eggs? Oeuf that’s unforgivable.

Get a load of this, from the former director of the Milwaukee Art Museum:

“It is a work that offends the Catholic Church. So be it. If an Art Museum is not offending some people some of the time, it is not doing its job”

Needless to say, there is never ever a time for his Art Museum to offend Mohammedans. When a link to Condom Mohammed appeared on the Museum’s Facebook page, it was immediately deleted:

As much as I despise the New York Slimes, the entire media & artistic establishment is just as cowardly and just as sanctimonious about it.

    • just a thought

The clue is in that quote…

“If an Art Museum is not offending some people some of the time, it is not doing its job”

But when it offends ALL of the target group ALL of the time, that’s a totally different matter.

The NYT public editor has admitted, via Twitter, that “the unacknowledged factor of staff security” was a factor in not running the Charlie Hebdo cartoon and it was “Not unreasonable”.

See? Terrorism works, again. Or at least it gives the left convenient excuses.

  • David Murrell

My only quibble with Blaze’s headline is the term “breaking news”. The New York Times has been continuously full of sh** for decades now.

The reason for this abject hypocrisy? Catholics in general do not commit war crimes and engage in everyday criminality. The NYT sympathises with war criminal and everyday criminals. So the Times favour Islamic concerns, and trash Catholic concerns.

  • Not_Crazy

I read how they wanted to make jokes like the charlie hebo. Bet they won’t do something to offend Muslims.
