In an interview from that year by CBS’s Eric Sevareid, longshoreman philosopher Eric Hoffer praises how America is country for the common man and warned about the corruptibility of the all-knowing intellectuals who seek to become puppet-masters

    I had never heard Eric Hoffer talk. Subtitles definitely required. And then I look up Wikipedia to see which East European country he was born in … New York City. 🙂

      Well, I’m ignorant, evidently, but I don’t recall even reading anything by him, let alone hearing him speak. Now that I have … I am going to start by listening to the rest of the interview when I get home from work and then see about checking out some of his books.

        He is one of Thomas Sowell’s favourite authors. He is always quoting him. That’s a high recommendation.
