Evidently we are being asked to feel sorry for him.
“Ahmed’s criminal record was cited as a concern in the May 28 immigration division’s decision to keep him in custody.
“In addition to your criminal record, which is a valid consideration in assessing the issue of danger to the public, members previously took note of the fact that not only was there an escalation in dangerous criminal behaviour but there was little evidence of rehabilitation to mitigate the danger concerns,” the May 28 decision said. “You do not accept responsibility for your conduct, you have claimed that you were duped into committing the bank robberies.”
Ahmed’s criminal record includes an April 4, 2010 conviction for sexual assault, break and enter, and theft under $5,000. He was working as a door-to-door salesman in Brockville when he “erroneously” believed the woman was flirting with him and tried to kiss her. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail for those offences.
Court heard that Ahmed regretted the incident and felt so ashamed he tried to commit suicide while in custody in 2011.
Ahmed was also convicted on April 27, 2010, with uttering a forged document and forgery. He forged a Vanier resident’s signature on an energy rate contract when he worked as a door-to-door salesman. Ahmed was given a suspended sentence and 12 months of probation.
On June 18, 2012, Ahmed was convicted of two counts of robbery, failure to comply with a probation order and obstructing a peace officer. He was sentenced to two years in prison.”
